Limited Military Draft — September 29, 2024?
Armstrong Economics ^ | 12 Aug 23 | Martin Armstrong

The US military has been struggling to recruit new members for years. I have reported on this various times and noted that the computer predicts that a US draft may be approved on September 29, 2024. This date marks 51.6 years from the precise day that President Richard Nixon ended the draft on January 27, 1973.

The US military is already discussing the prospect of a “limited draft.” They are seeking 160,000 eligible people from a population of 30 million. The all-volunteer force has reached a “breaking point,” as Military.com put it, and the most effective way to solve the crisis is to force the youth into service.

The military is now throwing around the idea of dedicating one month per year to recruiting a Selected Service to meet the annual recruitment goal. Numerous countries ask all citizens to sign up for some type of service when they come of age. The US military never had the need for such a service as patriotism was high, and each branch offered numerous incentives to join.

Military drafts or “conscription” date back to ancient times in Mesopotamia. The United States instituted a draft or conscription during the Civil War, which led to a series of bloody draft riots. Resistance to the draft, as managed by the Selective Service in the United States, reached a historic peak during the Vietnam War.

Every branch of the US military besides the Marine Corps has failed to meet their recruitment goals. We are low on ammo, as the commander-in-chief pointed out, and soldiers. The problem is two-fold. No one wants to enlist, and the number of young Americans who would actually qualify has reached a record low. A 2022 poll showed that only 9% of those eligible want to join the military, a major decrease from 29% in recent years. Over half of the respondents (57%) were worried that they would suffer psychological damage from serving. A more recent poll from May 2023 indicates only 13% of 18 to 29-year-olds are “highly willing” to serve.

The last generation had the hot topic issue of 9/11, terrorism, and protecting their country’s freedom. This generation has been raised in classrooms where they sit for the pledge of allegiance and are taught that their country is inherently bad. They watched the Commander in Chief abandon their mission in Afghanistan and continually disrespect members of the military. Not to mention the military fired servicemembers who declined to take the experimental vaccine.

One proposed solution was to offer citizenship to illegal immigrants who enlisted. Since top government agents are unable to define women, expect everyone to be targeted.

The US military could go into a hybrid model of recruiting new soldiers. War is coming either way. September 29, 2024, would be shortly before the next US presidential election. That, too is right on target, as the only possible way for Biden to stay in power would be to forego a real election process.

The last time the US was invaded by foreign troops whose army actually stuck around and occupied soil was.....

do you know....

Hint...the invaders came from Mexico....just like they are now!

https://www.nps.gov/nr/travel/american_latino_heritage/big_bend_national_park.html

“Mexican bandit Captain Rodriguez Ramirez led the raid on Glenn Springs on May 5, 1916. The Mexicans killed four people, seriously injured four others, looted the Glenn Springs store, and burned two of the major factory buildings.”

Agree, and never thought I’d live to see the day I’d agree to it. Not biden’s military, Bushes weren’t much better. I’m the wife of a Retired SCPO 58-78. NOT THE SAME MILITARY.

Me thinks the illegal inigranfts will fill the void. Works better that way if you want to engage your citizens.

Draft them exclusively from the blue states. I would not want my kids serving in today’s military, although I served in yesterday’s military. I really hate the idea of defending a certain half of the inhabitants of this country that have no use for the country. Let them serve. I think because of my attitude as a vet, which reflects that of many vets, the military has difficulty recruiting from what was historically their strongest source of recruits, those from veteran families.

Instead, give the idiots who can’t pay back their college loans first shot at joining.

While serving, no more interest on their loans and their pay can go directly into reducing the principle.

Wrong. Japan invaded the US territory of the Philippines in December, 1941. Japan also invaded the US territory of Alaska during WWII.

Did my part during Vietnam”

So did I.

And if my country were to be militarily invaded tomorrow, I would fight in any way I can to defend my country.

Are we going to task these draftees with performing maintenance on aircraft? It would take only seconds for a disgruntled draftee to cause hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage to a fighter plane, damage that could take weeks to repair.

Bingo.

The number of talented active duty regulars who would leave is a bigger problem with a draft than the person refusing to be drafted. I know firsthand of several individuals who retired due to a wave of recruiting that brought in problem children. Those that weren't able to retire were signing up for special duty assignments that would insulate them from the newly enlisted rabble. For a few, it made the decision to separate a lot easier.

As the JAG officers repeatedly pointed out, "the brass brought them in and we spend the next year throwing them out." Some of the recruits were simply thugs that belonged in a prison, not in the military - and these were recruits, not draftees. A quick look at their Unfavorable Information File (UIF) showed that those with the right ethnicity were allowed in despite using hard core drugs in the past - white guys - "No thank you."

Understaffed and overworked units in particular have no leeway when dealing with malcontents and criminals. There's too much work and not enough time to be dealing with problems. Knowing one's performance reports are dependent on getting the job done, the NCOs in particular were having none of it.

I could tell you stories of the costs to the taxpayer of the damage that some of these people did, including politically damaging crimes in foreign countries by misfits who had no business being in uniform.

In the very very very small chance one was reinstituted, it sure isn't going to be 1 month before a presidential election, with all of the House and 1/3 of the Senate up for vote. That definitely ain't happnin'.

Why?

The votes are already in place, what do they care about the voters?

They will glory in rubbing it in our faces. They can't resist the gloat.

That's our side's whole problem. We're arming up for the day shooting starts, but the communists are winning without firing a shot.

We say we're ready to fight, but then we fund their military build up with our free trade deals, and fund their media with our TV subscriptions. We could have prevented both, but we were seduced by the easy life we thought we had earned for ourselves with the end of the Cold War. Now we're too addicted to their cheap slave labor and their propaganda passing itself off as entertainment to wean ourselves from it, and they're laughing at our 80 billion bullets.

Not all of us, but you know who you are.

If you look at how Communists took over countries like Poland and Czechoslovakia after WWII, this is exactly how they did it.
