A weight-loss drug has been proven to also reduce the risk of a stroke or heart attack, according to a new trial.
The makers of Wegovy, Novo Nordisk, say its latest study shows it cuts risk of a cardiovascular event in overweight people with heart disease by a fifth.
The firm hailed it a "landmark trial", saying it would change the way obesity is regarded and treated.
While the findings still have to be fully reviewed, experts agreed the results were potentially significant.
The injection is popular in places like the US, and was approved for weight loss in the NHS in England in June.

Yeah, but that takes discipline. Why work so hard at eating better, when you can have all the pudding and cake you want and just take a pill?
I thot that a semaglutide was those spikey looking rock things growing in caves?
I take another version of the same drug...Ozempic...for diabetes.Luckily my health plan covers it with a small copay...because it’s damn expensive. The “sticker price” is about $1,000 for a month’s supply.
I lost about 40 pounds in about 9 months.
Me too.
Those drugs are dangerous. Stay away from them!
Me too (weight loss). My A1C went from 5.8 to 5.4. My doctor was overjoyed.
I’ve never been able to stick to a diet because of Sugar/carb addiction. Keto/carnivore diet - for me - has been easy. YES easy. I am full all the time. I have energy and good results...significant and immediate weight loss. A1C down to WNL. Clothes hanging off of me. Can’t afford to buy new ones. My blood work will be taken in Nov.
The secret is very very low carb and intermittent fasting. Even when I am in the fast, I am not hungry. Took my body about a wk before I adjusted to the fast.
fructose and fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
***********
I take it that all fruits contain fructose. Children who are over weight are getting NAFLD
Oh I heard yesterday that the medical folks are changing the name from NAFLD to a name that has no stigma ie fatty is the stigma.
Typical
“I’ve been on Ozempic...an identical drug meant for diabetes...for months. Apart from passing gas I’ve had none of those side effects. Just don’t light a match near me and everything will be fine.”
But if you were once again 19 years old and in a fraternity, you’d be an excellent donor for experiments designed to answer the everlasting question, “do farts burn?”
That’s awesome! 👏
When I hit menopause, the pounds just wouldn’t come off. I thought I would never be able to lose weight, because my Dad was very overweight, and I’ve taken after him my whole life. Then I realized I was being self-destructive, and started paying attention to when I ate, what I ate, when I was hungry, and when I was eating because I was bored or lonely. With better habits, I lost 35 pounds over the course of a couple of years, and have kept it off for 2+. Oh, and I walk several miles every day, usually at least 3.
I would love to lose another 5 but the doctor says I’m in great shape, don’t look my age, and my blood work is pretty good, too. I’m keeping on keeping on, and not taking any pharmaceuticals to deal with this.
Eating natural food appropriate for humans does the same, without side effects and much less expensive.
Congratulations! Same here.
Not really. Maybe for the first couple of weeks, but no longer. On my fasting days, I have zero hunger.
I’ve never been overweight, so I sort of don’t have a dog in this hunt-but-the reason I’m not overweight is having followed an all natural, organic diet-no processed food, carbs only from fresh veggies, fresh fruit and brown rice, no refined sugar, grass fed, free range meat, no frankenfood like margarine, vegetable oil etc since childhood.
The few times I strayed from the natural diet to eat dorm food in college, I had no energy and caught colds, etc-never happens if I stay on my organic diet-the Wuhan virus didn’t affect me much, either. I stay away from all drugs and vaxxes-wisely, I believe-pharma loves lifetime customers who take a drug to lose weight, etc, then need several more for the side effects of those, then more, more, more $$$$$$. If it is just a drug to make weight loss easier so you don’t have to eat healthy or depend on your own willpower, is it really worth the chance it could harm you?
Atkins was the progenitor. Keto, ketovore, carnivore are improvements on his method. I use some Atkins frozen meals...the Atkins breakfast scramble is delicious.
Same here...
After the COVID fiasco, I agree with you. Plenty of other evidence to bolster that position.
My biological father weighed 400o+ lbs for the last 25 years of his life-he died of the effects of morbid obesity. Since my mom split with him before I was 2 and he moved back to Cali, I only spent time with my mom and stepdad-both were into the natural and organic, so my bro and I grew up that way. A lot of people called my family “health nuts” before that was accepted as a good thing. Most of my aunts and uncles did the natural living thing, too-no overweight people in the family, but we lived on a ranch, where people can grow and raise their own organic stuff...
