1) Whether the named things are religious or not, the answer is political. One problem is religious people often refuse to intelligently use political means to achieve their goals.
2) There is no way that immigration is a religious issue and comparable to issues of life and death. That totally cheapens and discounts the value of the issue of life.
The children of Israel were immmigrants to Palestine. My ancestors (and most of our ancestors) immigrated here. It is not a religious issue. Most Mexicans immigrating here illegally are devout Christians. (Not so much Central Americans where Christianity has been corrupted much more than in Mexico.) Immigration is an issue of economics and other things, but not religion.
The lack of logic on immigration makes it very difficult to discuss the topic intelligently.
