WSJ: Hawaiian Electric Focused on Climate Change, Neglected Wildfire Risk

The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that Hawaiian Electric, the biggest power supplier in the state, focused on shifting to renewable energy sources to combat climate change, rather than spending money to address fire risk around its power lines.

[...]

Moreover, the Journal noted that Hawaiian Electric had taken note of similar risks in California’s recent wildfires, but had yet to devote significant resources to addressing the problem. Instead, it focused on complying with state “green” energy mandates...

[...]

The company had plans to spend nearly $200 million on wildfire mitigation measures on Maui, the Journal reported, but instead had spent less than $245,000. The wildfire plan was stalled by bureaucracy; in the interim, the company focused on climate goals

Ever been to Hawaii? It’s a picture of what Democrats want for the entire nation as everyone is on some form of Government assistance especially the locals and they always vote Blue...BTW only 8 Republicans hold State offices in the State and they are RINOS...

RE: No tears from me as Hawaii embraces Democrats...

Me, too.

“Everything going into my mind gets filtered through politics.”——Bay Buchanan (sister of Pat).

Biden won Hawaii with 63.7% over Trump, who earned 34.3%.
Nixon (1974) and Reagan (1984) were the only GOP winners. 2 GOP, 14 Dems since 1959 statehood. winning Dems included Dukakis, Mondale and Hillary. Some taste.

Hawaii has been dominated by Democrats since statehood in 1959. The state has elected just one Republican U.S. senator, Hiram Fong, who served from 1959 to 1977, and two GOP House members. The rest have been Democrats.

In fairness, the equity remark seems to have been made on an earlier date.

But he did tell the firefighters to ask a lot of permissions.

And the firefighters tried to ask permission which in hindsight was a mistake.

What ifs...what if the other areas served by the reservoir also had fires?

A lot to be said for hardscaping near houses, flame resistant construction, metal fencing, reducing fuel loads in forest, brush and grasslands. Hard lessons.

He got his “true equity” — everybody got incinerated regardless of race, creed, color or wealth. He should be very happy.

I don’t think most of them are able to connect the dots. Most probably don’t read/watch news, and if they do.. it is probably local.

"Like, we can share [water], but it requires true conversations about equity."

In a just world, this person would be charged with first degree murder in connection with every person who died in the fire.

This person would be convicted on all counts and would be publicly hanged by the neck until dead.

Hawaiians are suckers for leftism imo because of the monarchy in their past. They went from feudalism to, well, feudalism. I’ve never thought they understood or embraced enlightenment thinking, egalitarianism or the principle of civic requirements and functions of a representative republic.
