Who says he put Bolton in charge of our national security? He was Trump’s NSA - an advisory position. Trump had a number of people advising him on foreign relations. More than likely, he hired Bolton for optics (i.e. to keep our adversaries guessing).
If Trump actually followed Bolton’s advice, then why did we see a reduction of our presence in Afghanistan and the Middle East, rather than an increase?
Why did we see a de-escalation of tensions with North Korea, rather than escalation?
