KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Artist Carmen Rose used to perform regularly in Malaysia, until a police raid last year put an end to the veteran drag queen's act and fuelled the fears of the LGBTQ community at a time when Islamists are rapidly gaining political clout.
Since the raid, during which several party-goers were arrested, Rose has stopped doing shows, and rarely ventures out in public in costume.
"It's always a risk going out in drag. If there was a raid, who do we call? Do we bring our boy clothes just in case?" said Rose, who declined to disclose her non-drag identity due to fears of reprisal. "They see us as sexual deviants or sinners."
Queer Malaysians and rights groups told Reuters that LGBTQ communities face increasing scrutiny and discrimination under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's government, despite the longtime opposition leader's reputation as a progressive reformer.

They are not hunting homosexuals. What queers do in their own homes, or even private gatherings or clubs is their business.
But being narcissists, they can’t avoid flaunting themselves and making themselves obvious and public. that’s when it becomes a political/police issue.

The Weimar Republic is the historical example people use, but homosexuality was illegal by law going back to before the First World War.
It was enforced, too. But selectively enforced in the wide open town (former capital) Berlin and to a lesser degree in Stuttgart. But it wouldn't fly in Weimar itself. And certainly not taught in public schools or openly promoted by big corporations.
In the future, the go to historical example will not be the Weimar Republic.

Give it to the Islamic believers—they really believe and they are willing to die or kill for their beliefs. When have Christians been willing to die for Christ?—save for the Crusades? Not for 1,000 years. I predict a revival in America, a tent revival, not from the sell out MSM Churches. Sawdust, Bibles, and Old time religion. The leaders will be young people, of all races, who will come to Jesus. It will not be a good day for LGBTQ groups (but they will be welcome to convert and accept Gods Love).

There used to be red light districts for prostitutes, porn shops, and gay bars. They knew to keep their proclivities and business dealings contained to that area. And families knew to avoid it.
Plenty of Christians were martyred under Communism. African Christians are martyred today by Muslims.
