Ah Yes! Another Introspective, Vulnerable Narcissistic, Depressive Rant. :-)
My children are a bit too old to be Gen Z, but they listen to decent music. They enjoy most of what I listen and they occasionally turn me on to some decent Indie Rock. My one daughter was home from Ft. Bragg last week. I thought I would turn her onto some “new music to me”. It turns out she recently and independently started listening to the same band. I like to think that had something to do with my raising her.
Man, I wore out that song feeling sorry for myself when the girl I fell for left me.
Back then the girls used to save a lot of time by dumping me before ever taking up with me. Very efficient.
I still thought that song was hilarious.
Gah! I was 11 years old when that Laura and Tommy tune came out, and I was the only girl around who was not going around singing it, because I listen to music to be happy, not depressed. The “Last Kiss” song was not as conducive to sadness-not sure why-Pearl Jam did a good remake, too. If sad music depresses the youth of today so easily, they obviously need reality therapy-what a bunch of wussses. And now I’m going to crank up some AC/DC to get rid of the sad earworm...
LOL!
“McArthur Park” was worse-every time I heard it I wanted to scream...
Everyone is bashing Gen Z being ‘sad’ while almost every Old Person on FR is lapping up Rich Men North of Richmond?
Talk about wanting to kill myself after listening to a sad - nay, DEPRESSING song. And yet, many old Freepers think this is the runaway hit of the summer.
Btw, that song sucks…if it had lefty lyrics it’d get roasted here.
FWIW, the youngsters I know are delving into instrumental hard progressive rock. No lefty lyrics, and more cerebral yet brutal music. The pod-eating youngsters are going for pop.
Not at all. I said: I wonder why that is, NOT.
In other words, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if they are sad, because the world is being screwed by leftist a-holes. We must defeat these pricks for the sake of the future of the children, worldwide.

Want to share what the band name is?
Yep, and so do I. I grew up on prog rock, but have attempting to inject some newer music to what I listen. I simply followed the evolution of prog rock up to today. There are all kinds of off shoots. I’ve not much of a metal guy, but I do enjoy very complex instrumental music with roots in classical, jazz and blues. There are some tremendously talented young musicians today, but you’re not going to hear them on the Spotify Top 50 Pop List.

You probably won't like him, but I liked the Pearl Jam number you offered up. 👍
I like him!
(((My tastes run from Bach, to Reggae, to Russian Orthadox Chant, to Blues, Jazz, Bebop, American Songbook, Beethoven, Chopin, and just about everything else including Gypsy Music and Uzbeck Sheep-Shearing Melodies. LOL))))
The Pearl Jam number was a cover of the original which came out when I was a young teen.
He’s a really good guitar player! :-)
Reminds me of Roma (Gypsy) Music combined with Reggae and Rap.
Thank you for the introduction.
Olivia Rodrigo has had five hit songs that I’ve heard so far. All five are about bad relationships. I wonder if she’ll ever come out with a happy song.
