“I typically leave snakes be, and I have six acres of land in a woody, rolling, area west of Fort Worth, Texas, so I have plenty of them. When I bought this place a little over 2 years ago, I kept seeing copperheads near my front and side porches (while we were moving in). I saw a five-foot-long black rat snake in my well house. And I have seen various other non-venomous snakes around.”

I leave the black snakes, hog snakes, rat snakes, and king snakes alone. The more the merrier when it it comes to them. However, I too have grandchildren. The copperheads are gonna die if we see them on our place!

I believe it.....there’s a reason ammo manufacturers make shot shells for revolvers specially designed for killing snakes.

I still spend some time in CA (we moved to Idaho five years ago).

Almost 20 years ago, a juvenile mountain lion was spotted in a tree at a Palo Alto elementary school. The 100 pound cat was sitting in the tree eyeing all the yummy morsels on the playground. The cat couldn't be persuaded to leave all those excellent dinners, so they shot and killed him.

You can't imagine all the caterwauling by the locals about killing the pretty kitty. I'm not convinced they would have been singing a different tune if the cat had dined on that playground.

Too late for my wife’s flowers but our deer population is lowering about one per week. That’s the kill rate for a cougar.

In one day, like they recieved some natural signal, cougars came down out of the mountains to the lowlands and beach along Oregon’s North Coast.

That was a “harmless” reptile? I’d swear it said it was a rattlesnake. They are venomous & they do bite, you know.

Oddly enough tha PA Fish and Boat Commission requires a permit to kill a venomous snake, imposes a limit of one per year, and only allows taking Timber Rattlers as the other variety is endangered. PA has rules for everything… so much so that I consider it “The Land of No Fun At All”.
