FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) — As the race for Kentucky governor heats up ahead of the Nov. 7 election, Republican candidate Daniel Cameron has picked up a new endorsement.

Kentucky State Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) President Berl Perdue Jr. announced Tuesday that the organization voted to endorse Cameron for governor.

“Attorney General Cameron has been a friend to the FOP since the day he stepped foot into public office,” Perdue said. “We are excited to stand with Daniel and look forward to helping him during the remaining months of the campaign.”

To reach an endorsement decision, more than 10,700 members of the FOP responded to a questionnaire that considered the two 2023 gubernatorial candidates, Cameron and current Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear.

“The FOP is the number one voice of law enforcement. Our membership spoke passionately about both candidates, but it was clear that Attorney General Cameron was the overwhelming choice,” Ryan Straw, FOP vice president and governmental affairs chair, said.

These people endorsed BJ over Dole in ‘96. I haven’t forgot. It’s about collective bargaining. The promise of 100k cops didn’t hurt.

Voters here and also to an even larger degree in West Virginia are in a political land that time forgot. They accidentally only vote Republican sometimes and still act like it’s 1935 and FDR is still running the DNC. They want both guns AND food stamps.

I think WV has finally moved past that with GOP super-majorities in both Houses of the legislature. It’s possible we could backslide but I don’t see any WV Rat with the charisma or a national Rat with charisma to do it.

If I remember correctly Kentucky’s big problem is it very powerful state employee & teacher’s union which has created huge problem in the solvency of their pension fund. Of course it’s the taxpayer’s job to solve it by just forking over more money. The previous GOP governor tried to take that on and failed. The state union & teacher’s union demagogued the issue to death and used it to beat him. It was done for the children!

"They want both guns AND food stamps."

May I borrow that phrase. Having lived and worked in both states, that sums up the political trends in both states.

Not in Kentucky they didn’t - they voted to split from the national FOP endorsement.
