911 calls in Seattle could soon be answered by unarmed “crisis responders” instead of police officers through a new “alternate response team” spearheaded by a Democratic council member.
Councilwoman Lisa Herbold announced on Friday that they are beginning to hire the first six new positions for a new pilot program to provide for unarmed “crisis responders” to respond to certain emergency calls. […]
Herbold was originally behind the vote that began defunding the Seattle police back in Aug. 2020. The plan cut 100 officers from the city’s 1,400 police force and $3 million from the police’s $400 million budget.
Around this time, Herbold also supported legislation that would drop misdemeanor charges for defendants who suffer from substance abuse, have a mental disorder or live in poverty.
Ironically, in Dec. 2020, she called the police to her home after a man reportedly threw a rock through her living room window; a crime for which, under proposed legislation, the suspect would potentially avoid criminal charges if caught. …

Actually cops are 65.00 an hour. What is going to happen is one of these 16$ an hour kids will get shot at a domestic disturbance.
Another real world example of why liberals should never be allowed in power. Their ideas absolutely suck.
I’m sure it’s more in my country as well, when you include benefits and all that overtime that is available to them. I am aware of one cop that has basically made $200,000 or more, because he goes for as much overtime as he can handle.
I can only guess the social workers will try to talk calm and then call the cops themselves if the fail to keep the peace.
It could be worth a shot, if it works. Cops should not be expected to wear as many hats as we expect them to.
Who the hell in the right mind would accept a job like this? Responding unarmed to 911 calls in Seattle? Good grief.

ROTFL! Somebody is going to get their ass shot. I hope that 16 bucks is worth it. You can make that kind of money as a “fries guy” these days. “Crisis Responder” is a dumb idea.
Just think though if they hire the guys that want to be suicided by cops anyway, the city and the employee gets what they want. For a time anyway.

Instead of training and hiring police officers to deal with conflicts, towns and cities are hiring unarmed minimum wage workers to deal with it... After all... What could go wrong?
This is a very dangerous trend.
