And yes, there are indeed bad apples who are not constituted such as to make a good police officer.

A friend of mine when we were teenagers was always getting in trouble with the cops. Surprised me when he joined the police academy and became an SFPD cop, and later became my brother-in-law. I guess because he used to be a punk, that he understood them better than rookies. He was respectful and friendly in interactions with suspects. However, he soured on the way fellow officers were treating people, and switched from patrol duty in bad neighborhoods, to becoming a motorcycle cop - much happier. Another brother-in-law joined SFPD, and maybe he was too mellow and respectful, and quit within a year because he didn't like what fellow officers were rudely doing. Why can't all police officers be mellow? Because they are a subsection of society, that has both good and bad people. Currently have a nephew working as a Sheriff's deputy who is doing well - very nice gentle guy who has my sister worried about his work if it gets dangerous.
