I can’t recall who did the study but a physicist reviewed published work and concluded their had been no substantial work done by academia since, if I recall, 1973. At that point a frustrated physicist took his work into a successful business venture as no university was interested. The author blamed the seniority based university system where every new project had to be approved by senior staff who were invested in proving their pet, and as it turns out, incorrect theories. He gave string theory as an example that has no physical proof but a huge number of well financed theory papers that collectively show the theory has no basis. Yet funding keeps flowing. Basically we need to do away with the present university system.

If you were doing brilliant PhD-level work...the minute that success and profits can be proven....you disappear within weeks.
You can use that Huntsville Chinese scientist (Ning Li) as an example...who was doing work in anti-gravity stuff...then quietly disappeared.
The ones who linger...are the ones with failed research or stuck in intellectual quick-sand.
You nailed it except this is not “the science world.”
It is “Grifter World” and “Cons-R-Us World” and “Scammer World.”
Imagine the 35 year old PhD candidate leading this “research” going to visit Mom and Dad next Christmas and the conversation at the dinner table: “Let me tell you about my dissertation.”
Another government sponsored “study” where the desired findings are already decided before the slobs even get the grant check.
“Intellectual quicksand.” What a brilliant metaphor describing the university system.
The “Link” is that Climate Change is used as an excuse for DemonicRats to use tax payers money to set up child trafficking around the world.
