Nobody in his right mind would want civil war. It would be the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, with famine and pestilence probably killing more than the war itself. But there is something worse than death: tyranny!

What would happen in the rest of the world if the USA started destroying itself? China would almost certainly conquer Taiwan. I bet North Korea would invade South Korea. Does Israel have enough conventional and nuclear forces to deter its Arab neighbors from attacking? Do Britain and France have enough warheads to dissuade Russia from simply nuking Ukraine, along with any European countries that get in its way?

Who would end up in command of U.S. nuclear forces in the event of civil war? Would things get so chaotic the Chinese and/or Russians could launch a “counterforce” first strike and destroy all of our strategic weapons on the ground without fear of retaliation, since no one on the American side would have the authority/codes to retaliate? Under whose command would the ballistic missile submarines at sea be? Or would the submarines return to their home ports since the sailors thereon wouldn’t be getting paid in such a state of pandemonium?
