A University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill faculty member was killed Monday in a shooting that prompted a campuswide lockdown while officials searched for an "armed and dangerous person," university officials said.
A suspect was captured about an hour and a half after the shooting at Caudill Laboratories, and an all-clear was issued for the campus about two hours after that.
No other injuries were reported, school officials said at a briefing Monday afternoon.

As I said, “diversity is our strength”. Or China’s strength. Or maybe Russia’s. Or could it be the Taliban’s?
Or maybe “diversity” is in fact now our nation’s weakness. I guess opinions vary.

That’s a good possibility. Or falsifying research. Or maybe destroying research to make a study look bad so that China’s research will look better. China (and other countries) sends students here to steal and sabotage chemical and technological studies in order to advance China’s standing in the scientific community. Universities compete for those students because they pay full tuition.
I know of a university in which the feds would come around about once a year or so to look for foreign students who were enrolled in such studies. The department heads would have to admit that after the second or so semester, many of them had never shown up to a class again. They would inform the officials that the had sent the appropriate information to the email provided by the State Department but no one ever responded to follow up on the student’s failure to attend classes.
It’s big money for universities and big scientific gains for other countries.

One of the “earliest” mass murder shootings, once unheard of though now common, occurred in Iowa City, Iowa, at the University. A foreign national, a graduate student upset about his grades or something like that.

Most of them were trapped in a one exit meeting room.
He shot a female undergrad - working as the Department receptionist - in the mouth.
The bullet struck her spine, and she was a completely helpless quadriplegic forever after.
He killed himself when it was all over.
I think all his victims were white, but, after 30 years, my memory fades.
