Fox News pundit calls Ramaswamy proposal ‘criminally stupid’ and ‘like a freshman foreign policy paper’

Fox News pundit and Washington Post columnist Marc Thiessen railed against Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy’s foreign policy proposals, calling them “criminally stupid,” and “utterly disqualifying.”

Thiessen took to social media on Monday in response to an article Ramaswamy wrote with The American Conservative centered on how he would approach the Russia-Ukraine war and U.S. relations with China.

“This by @VivekGRamaswamy is criminally stupid,” Thiessen wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, before quoting one of the lines from Ramaswamy’s piece.

“Like a freshman foreign policy paper. Utterly disqualifying,” Thiessen continued.

Thiessen chose a quote from Ramaswamy’s piece centered around the White House hopeful’s vow to accept Russian control of the occupied territories and to block Ukraine’s NATO candidacy, “in exchange for Russia exiting its military alliance with China.” Ramaswamy also said he would end sanctions to bring Russia back into the global market and as a result, “elevate Russia as a strategic check on China’s designs in East Asia.”

In his post, Ramaswamy signaled he would significantly reduce the U.S.’ international involvement, writing, “We will be Uncle Sucker no more.” Ramaswamy claimed the U.S. “squandered” its opportunity after the end of the Cold War to remain he world’s lone superpower, allowing Russia and China to work together to threaten the nation’s top spot.

Ramaswamy said he would also plan to visit Moscow as president in 2025 to negotiate terms to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. Ramaswamy’s stance on the Russia-Ukraine war drew criticism from his GOP rivals during last week’s GOP primary debate when he was the only candidate to raise his hand when moderators asked who would not keep supporting Ukraine. Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley responded to Ramaswamy’s stance, arguing he has “no foreign policy and it shows.”

In a post later Monday, Thiessen responded to a post from Ramaswamy on his stance on Taiwan, writing “Amateur hour. All China hears is: ‘We can invade in 2028.’ This is how world wars get started.”

Touching upon Taiwan in his piece with The American Conservative, Ramaswamy said he would push for “strategic clarity” on defending American interests in Taiwan, in contrast to the current U.S. policy of strategic ambiguity.

China considers Taiwan, a self-governing democracy, to be a part of its sovereign territory and seeks reunification with the island.

This is naive, at best. Russia is not going to play the part of "a strategic check on China's designs in East Asia" - first, because it doesn't want to and second, because it doesn't have the ability to do so.

And Third, because we have stolen their foreign reserves, have been waging proxy war on them for the last 9 years, and are arming Ukraine to attack Moscow.

You can't catch neocon stupid once its escaped the cage

‘Criminally stipid’

Perfect descriptive term for Joe Biden.

“How come it is “completely ridiculous” for the USA to believe that Russia would end its partnership with China, but that Russia should believe that Ukraine won’t pair up with NATO ? “

That’s the point. Both are ridiculous.

The objections to Ramaswamy's Ukraine policy are correct: the only thing we can offer Putin is someone else's territory. And conceding Ukraine would be seen for what it is: total capitulation.

Putin hates the US with an irrational passion and has delusions of grandeur about restoring the Russian Empire. The only thing he would value is the US conceding a new Russian sphere of influence in Eastern Europe, and after having given him what he wants we would have zero leverage left. And any concessions to Putin would be such a display of weakness that China would be even more emboldened to act in the Pacific.

I see you did not understand my post at all or the historical analogy I used.

Number one, I don’t watch TV, haven’t watched for over 40 years nor do I own one.

China has its eyes on Eastern Russian; vast area of land and natural resources. Lebensraum (look it up since you obviously don’t know history)

I admire Russian arts and culture and definitely not a Russophobe. The bad guy in this conflict is Ukraine.

So read up on some history so you understand my posts and don’t make totally unfounded assumptions such as I get my information from TV. It doesn’t reflect well on you.

Sounds like a plan to me and certainly beats the Leftists (Ukraine War supporters) who prefer World War 3.

They aren’t wrong.

His foreign policy proposals are beyond idiotic, and basically show how this con man operates.

He’s gotten away with this crap a lot in his life but here it fully exposes the lack of depth.

Telling people what they want to hear to win the con, doesn’t work at foreign policy because it exposes the con. Okay we’ll protect Taiwan until we get our chip fab online then toss em to the wolves… this kind of statement shows there is no real thought or depth and all but the most utterly naive will fall for this crap.

This guys a fraud from top to bottom.

Huh? What currency is the USD weak against presently? The only major currency we appear to have lost ground to in the last year is the Euro, and that’s mainly because the Euro has recovered from its crash due to the energy situation caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Go back further and the dollar still shows a gain.

Yeah, Ramaswamy's plan re Taiwan as expressed to Tucker made me sit up and go "WTF?" Oh, yeah, he also would demand that Taiwan double its defense spending, fine, but no amount of its money Taiwan can expend is gonna defend them on their own vs. China, unless Taiwan spends it on nukes - oh, boy, how wonderful is that?! Plus, especially after basically doubling, no, add in Afghanistan and its tripling down on the US as totally unreliable as an ally, he'll trust one of the most untrustworthy regimes on the planet?

A grain company in Russia sent 100,000 tons to Africa free in July alone.

A drop in the bucket. And in one attack Russia destroyed some 60,000 tons in Ukraine. How much Ukrainian grain in total has Russia destroyed or blocked? How much if it could? All of it?

Who?

Thiessen. He's one of the CIA's mockingtards at WaPo. You can pretty much take whatever he says as the obverse of the truth.

So Miranda Nazarro (never heard if her) says Marc Theissen (vaguely know who this is) says negative things about Vivek Ramaswamy (new kid on the block). Why is this worthy of a news article? Why can’t Miranda Nazarro tell us something other than gossip?

“Candidate Vivek” glibly expounds on any issue
but a (God forbid) “President” Vivek would not say some of those things.

The wily Vivek needs....and desperately wants....attention.
And being a cunning slickster, he knows this is the way to do it;
say all the bombastic things that raise eyebrows.

You got that right.
