LG&E and KU Energy LLC plans to move out of its Main Street office building, where it’s been for more than 30 years, according to Louisville Business First.
The company, which is the primary provider of gas and electricity in Louisville, has plans to vacate its current headquarters on W. Main St., dubbed the LG&E Center. Natasha Collins, director of media relations with LG&E, said it will move to 820 W. Broadway, which currently operates as a business office for the company.
The company took up 14 floors in the Main Street building, as well as a partially leased space in the basement and on the first floor. Collins said the lease is coming to an end in 2025, and the company wanted to be thoughtful about what it would do next.
While the company is moving out of its longtime home, Collins said LG&E is still committed to creating a vibrant and thriving Downtown in Louisville.
LG&E is one of Louisville’s largest employers with 1,809 employees across Louisville. It’s also Louisville’s fourth oldest company, as it was founded in 1838.
I used to be a commercial real estate agent in Seattle. When I saw what was going on with downtown office space and Covid, I told my workmates that this will be VERY bad for the city and real estate investors/developers. It's taken a surprisingly long time, but the chickens are finally coming home to roost.
This is happening all over the country. Cities are getting their tax base hammered.
On a related note, when I started working from home, I changed my "office location" so I no longer had to pay county income tax. I'm sure a lot of LG&E and Humana employees did the same thing. Humana is to Louisville, what Boeing was to Seattle back in the day.
I absolutely love the idea of enhancing hometowns over bolstering liberal “utopias.”
Make the cities suffer every loss they encouraged.
Also, though Kentucky is a red state, Louisville is as blue as Seattle.
