That’s exactly right. Someone (I forget who) did an investigation about that a few years ago. A hypothetical small business was set up on paper.
The business’s income and expense info was sent to seven different professional tax preparers. Seven different results were reported, ranging from a significant refund to a significant tax due.

The IRS rarely seeks to convict anyone. They just assess the "back taxes" they say you should have paid, plus penalties and interest.
As long as you pay what they say you owe, they're happy.
Only in rare cases, where there's outright criminal fraud, or an innocent political target, does the IRS seek a conviction.
