NYPD overtime to be cut to help pay for migrant crisis — even as crime remains higher than before COVID

Overtime for NYPD cops will be cut to help pay for the city’s migrant crisis — even as police battle to rein in crime that is still higher than before the pandemic.

Mayor Eric Adams’ budget director, Jacques Jiha, has told the city’s four uniformed agencies — police, fire, sanitation and corrections — to come up with plans to slash their OT costs.

“The mayor will … issue a directive to implement an overtime reduction initiative for our city’s four uniformed agencies (NYPD, FDNY, DOC/DSNY),” Jiha said in a memo sent to city agencies Saturday “These agencies must submit a plan to reduce year-to-year OT spending.”

The uniformed agencies must submit issue monthly reports to City Hall “to track overtime spending and their progress in meeting the reduction target,” the memo said.

All of NYPD should quit. Let Adams figure it out.

You have massive control issues, this time something that
really does call for it. So what do they do? Why they
cut their only means of maintaining control.

NYC is cratering. This could get very very ugly if they
don’t pull their head out, clean off, and take some decent
actions.

As an orthodox Jew who knows his history a little too well, I truly worry that there will some style of major crown heights 1991 riot type of pogrom against the communtiy

For those of you who are not familiar, I’m referring to the black garbed hassidic communities like boro park, williamsburg, crown heights etc.....
and YES, orthodox Jews are by far the fastest growing segment of the Jewish population and we are overall very very very conservative.

If any of you are familiar with Lakewood NJ — it went 5 to 1 Trump in 2020.

One obvious way to cut OT is to not pay anyone to cover vacancies due to sick leave or annual leave or other absences. Which is just cutting services, basically.

That’s sure to reduce crime in the “sanctuary city” — some percentage of which is caused by the same illegal aliens you’re paying with money taken from the law enforcement budget. Makes perfect sense.

It seems that I have heard there is a major shortage of police officers to begin with. Now this.

Law enforcement risks death, gunshot wounds, getting stabbed or facing civil lawsuits and review board dangers to their future.
To defend people 99.5% of whom are not worth defending IMHO. Plus judicial system allows most to get out on technicalities, evidence problems, soft on crime judges or easy bail release.

A useless hamster wheel occupation.

in other words, the ADL , J-street etc are not in our universe at all.
There is ZERO connection between orthodox Jews and these organizations.

Those organizations are simply extreme left wing groups using their name as a cover.

the good news is that non-orthodox jews dont reproduce. They will disappear as a demographic within 20 years.
most of my orthodox family each have 5-8 children while most of my non-orthodox family barely had 2 at most. and of course 1 never pro-creates.

Is any consideration being given to cutting welfare a little?

I had to make sure this wasn’t the BB before posting. I could ask a certain question but I’d be contradicting my own tagline.

Illegals are loved by politicians while Americans are hated by those same politicians.

During COVID in 2020, NYPD overtime was cut in half. It forced a lot of cops to retire because a cut in OT means a reduction of your pension. It took about a year, but the OT levels went back to normal. If the OT levels drop again, I assume many older cops will retire and they will not be replaced which leads to fewer cops on the streets, which leads to a need for existing cops to do more OT. It never ends. This move to lower OT is also political. Adams has been begging for federal money to cover the migrant costs, but Biden hasn’t given much. This could lead to a very interesting clash within the Dem party over the next year.

The progressive pushes ideologically driven policies, and when they backfire demands that the policies were sensible while the consequences are somehow unfair.

Echoes of the Soviet Union's five year plans come to mind. Collapse is predicted, and this time tinged with racial animosity and societal ruptures.

Mayor Eric Adams can hire ex-cons to patrol the streets like San Francisco does and Portland mayor Ted Wheeler just signed on for.

New York City can weather the same lawsuits as San Francisco, where the private security company faces "multiple lawsuits over sexual harassment, unpaid overtime and forcing people to move without cause. Two employees were shot in 2022l in the city’s Tenderloin district, raising concerns about placing them in dangerous scenarios without adequate training."

And who needs training? "Street Roots, a weekly alternative newspaper... has reported on a lawsuit which alleges UA “has deployed hundreds [emphasis mine] of inadequately-trained, reformed long-term felons in public spaces to assume certain government functions traditionally performed by professionally-trained law enforcement personnel."

Perhaps:

I agree to reimburse the City of New York for the cost of housing and other assistance provided to me and my natural dependents insomuch as I reasonably can. In addition, I agree to reimburse the City of New York for any and all legal costs resulting from my failure(s) to do so.

--- "...non-orthodox jews dont reproduce. They will disappear as a demographic within 20 years...."

Agree with the overall prognosis, but think the time frame will be a bit longer based on logarithmic curves.

The same is being seen with the growth in a number of other populations whose various versions of "be fruitful and multiply" proves the overall contention, all the while the American and European Left, professing to understand science, cannot understand the demographic trends.
