Russian air defence system destroyed in Crimea, Ukraine says

Ukraine says it has destroyed a sophisticated Russian air defence system in occupied Crimea.

Kyiv's security service (SBU) and navy carried out the attack on a Russian facility near Yevpatoriya using cruise missiles and drones, a Ukrainian intelligence source told the BBC.

Video footage on social media showed a fire and smoke near the city, in the west of the Russian-occupied peninsula.

Moscow has yet to directly comment on the claim.

According to the BBC's intelligence source, the Ukrainian operation used drones to take out radar equipment, then cruise missiles to hit air defence missile launchers.

"After disabling the radar stations, the navy units hit the S300 and S400 'Triumph' systems, worth $1.2bn, by two Neptune cruise missiles," the source said.

Neptune missiles were designed by Ukraine's military for naval use but have been modified for ground targets as well.

No details were provided on the number of the batteries that had been hit.

So who'd want to buy an air defense system that doesn't defend?

Dismiss the story as you will, but the truth is that Russia can no longer defend Crimea from Ukrainian air and amphibious/SpecOp attacks. The Muscovites’ strategic position there has become untenable, especially after losing their shipyard, a Kilo submarine, and a landing ship this past week.

A radar system would normally have the antenna separated out from the controller and signal analysis stuff.

-——a sophisticated Russian air defence system-—

Actually, more correctly, the article should read “another sophisticated Russian air defence system”.

I’ve lost coumt but think the destroyed air defense system in question is at the very least number 5. That doesn’t count the several less sophisticated air defense systems.

Putin has been hawking his armaments for years. The truth is out there now. None of his stuff is actually worth damn.

According to the Pravda state newspaper, the price of one battalion (about 7–8 launchers) is US$200 million.

A regular S-400 battalion consists of up to eight launchers with 32 missiles and a mobile command post.

Note the pictures of the truck-mounted radars.

It was. There was a multi-pronged attack. First small drones took out the radar and antennas. Then missiles hit the launchers.

“None of his stuff is actually worth damn.”

Offensive weapons are very good nowadays.

One good defense is through real cheap decoys.

A $50,000 US missile can take out a $2 million Russian tank.

That same $50,000 US missile might take out a $5,000 Russian decoy built around an old Russian car.

The functions of tanks and ships probably will be moved to open frame, redundant weapons that can survive multiple hits.

No he is not. You need to re-read it. Pence said he fears that Russia will attack a NATO country is they are not stopped by Ukraine.

“I’m convinced that if the Ukrainian military doesn’t stop and repel that Russian invasion, it’s not going to be too long before that Russian army crosses a border that our men and women in uniform are going to have to go and fight under our NATO Treaty,”

Did you misunderstand what he said or just lying?

This is what I found:

I haven’t found anything that says:
“Mike Pence is calling for US troops on the ground in Ukraine”

“The Soviet military originally showed little interest in the Mi-8 until the Bell UH-1’s involvement in the Vietnam war became widely publicised as a great asset to the United States, allowing troops to move swiftly in and out of a battlefield and throughout the country. It was only then that the Soviet military rushed a troop-carrying variant of the Mil Mi-8 into production. By 1967, it had been introduced into the Soviet Air Force as the Mi-8.”

I don’t believe anything the Ukraine government says. And that goes for the Russian and US governments too.

This is the 3rd S-400 system destroyed - there are at least 3 more batteries to go.

R-360 Neptune (Ukrainian: Р-360 «Нептун», romanized: R-360 “Neptun”) is a Ukrainian subsonic cruise missile with all-weather capabilities developed by the Luch Design Bureau in Kyiv. Originally designed as an anti-ship missile, an alternative model was fielded in 2023 with a new guidance system to support land-attack roles.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R-360_Neptune

The support equipment looks much like that of the Russian S-300 to my untrained eyes.

It's called setting the stage "Farmer."

The clarion call will go out for U.S. troops to fight the world's largest country with the world's largest nuclear arsenal.

And unlike our trannies and metrosexuals in uniform, Russian troops don't care about your pronouns.
