Republican presidential candidate Gov. Ron DeSantis and other conservative critics took aim at former president Donald Trump for hedging this week on the explosive issue of transgenderism — and refusing to give a clear answer on whether he believes it’s possible to change one’s sex .
Trump responded with a long-drawn-out “Ummm” and an uncomfortable laugh when host Megyn Kelly, in a Thursday interview on her “The Megyn Kelly Show” on Sirius XM, asked: “Can a man become a woman?”
“In my opinion,” he finally said, shaking his head slightly, “you have a man, you have a woman.”
“I, I, I think part of it is birth,” he continued.
“Can the man give birth? No.”
But he seemed to leave the door open on that criterion.
“They’ll come up with some answer to that also someday,” Trump went on.
“I heard just the other day they have a way that now the man can give birth. No, I would say I’ll continue my stance on that.”
His feeble answer drew derision from conservatives.
“Don’t tell me a man can become a woman because it’s not true,” DeSantis said Friday in a speech to the Concerned Women for America in Washington, DC.
“Don’t tell me a man can get pregnant because it’s not true.”
“There is value in standing up for what is true,” the Florida governor said in comments that did not call out Trump by name.
“And what woke agenda is, is it represents a war on the truth itself.”
Longtime Trump antagonist Erick Erickson joined in.
“When a former president cannot and does not immediately say ‘no’ when asked if a man can become a woman, he does not need to be president again,” the right-wing commentator posted on X, formerly Twitter. ***

Trump being attacked for being on the right side of the issue is about a flailing campaign desperate to find a toe hold against him. Yawn.

He was pretty definitive actually. The difference is he doesn’t have canned answers. They still don’t understand his appeal. I felt the two best moments were at the end when she asked him about why he didn’t just live his life and go about his business and he answers with what they are doing to the country. Even better, however, was how he talked about Melania. It wouldn’t hurt him at all if he was able to do that to “the view” audience. He has an amazing level of respect and admiration for her. It’s not faked.
But it still won’t make him a woman.

Exactly right. Every cell in his body has DNA that is male.
Trump banned trans in military.
But the hyenas want virtue signaling, not reality so they ask meaningless questions.

A person can have all kinds of surgeries and hormones to help them appear as the opposite sex but NOBODY can change their DNA and that is how their sex is determined. Females have XX and males XY chromosomes. Nothing they do to themselves can/will change that basic fact.

Trump didn’t stumble. He answered more precisely and rambled on more than needed.
However I have zero doubt Trump knows the difference between a man and a woman.
If he only thinks that birth is only part of being male or female, he’s not on the right side of the issue.
“What is a woman?” would have been the correct answer.
Trump is going to fail on cultural questions, he’s not a social conservative. I’m surprised here that he wasn’t prepared with a better answer.
