The New York Times (via MSN.com) ^ | 16 September 2023 | David Gelles

The state of California sued several of the world's biggest oil companies on Friday, claiming their actions have caused tens of billions of dollars in damage and that they deceived the public by downplaying the risks posed by fossil fuels..."These folks had this information and lied to us...," said California Gov. Gavin Newsom. "It's shameful. It sickens you to your core."

Summary of the lawsuit from NYT article:

"In a detailed 135-page complaint, the state makes the case that the companies and their trade group have known since the 1950s that emissions from their products would dangerously warm the planet. But rather than alert the public, seek to reduce their emissions or invest in cleaner technologies, they downplayed the dangers and promoted fossil fuels as safe."

“the state makes the case that the companies and their trade group have known since the 1950s that emissions from their products would dangerously warm the planet”

Bullsh!t.

Liars.

They want this accusation to be used as evidence to obtain all communications of these companies for several decades.

The accusation has no basis.

When objectivity and reason are considered to be racist, you get this sort of stupidity.

The purpose has always been to destroy society and Western Civilization.

Does California still claim that oil is made from old dinosaur bones?

BS. But just to safe they should all immediately cease all supplies to California.

For decades, the State of California has known that fossil fuels have saved millions of lives and improved the lives of every person on the planet.

And, if California’s factual claim of global warming is true, then the fossil fuel companies have saved even more lives by decreasing the number of weather-related deaths.

By their own logic, the State of California owes the fossil fuel companies hundreds of billions, if not trillions of dollars due to externalities associated with the use of their products.

Can we sue the socialists mismanaging our state, local and federal governments? Socialism is the biggest killer and thug of regular people the world over.

Sems we ought to be able to do so.

We can sue individuals of corporations for mismanagement, its imperative we also do the same for govt officials making massive societal damaging decisions.

I say we do away with any kind of govt immunity as these people get pensions and payments after done serving themselves in office.

Yes it is.

Cutoff California from ALL ‘fossil fuels’. Immediately. No exceptions.

All fossil fuel companies and gas stations should immediately cease all business operations in california - I’m sure red states will happily take the surplus.

Just stop selling fossil fuels in CA. Let those harmed by the cutoff sue the state of CA. I can take a pass on attending my 50th high school reunion at the end of the month in San Diego. Wouldn't want to "harm the planet". A-holes.

Let’s balance what Newsom is claiming compared to the damage he & his ilk have caused California...and to some extent the rest of the country.

"It's shameful. It sickens you to your core."

I'll say. It sickens me that this bastard is going to force the oil companies to spend a billion dollars defending against the sham and that my CA taxes will pay for this travesty. This is the cigarette playbook all over again.
