The Department of the Interior on Monday announced a proposal to bar oil and gas development in large swathes of New Mexico in a bid to protect sensitive lands that some Indian tribes consider sacred.

The ban would affect more than 4,000 acres within Sandoval County, and aims to "safeguard sacred Tribal lands, boost important local recreation opportunities, and support wildlife habitat connectivity," the agency stated. Prohibitions would last for 50 years but not impact existing development rights.

"Today we’re responding to calls from Tribes, elected leaders, and community members who want to see these public lands protected. We look forward to hearing more from the public to inform decisions about how activities, like gravel mining, may impact these lands, including the important cultural and natural resources," DOI Secretary Deb Haaland said.

Biden's war on oil and gas is one of the main causes of Bidenomics. That and all the money being poured into the economy.

I’m guessing that New Mexico is rich in lithium and other rare earth metals?

Is there any “ tribal land” in America that’s not considered “ sacred”?

Give the tribes their own oil brand and they’d drill that land in a second if there was money to be made. “Casino Oil”.

If been involved in mineral exploration in the west. Ten square miles of New Mexico is not much, really. However, it is the “tip of the iceberg” for this radical bunch of elitist autocrats. They care nothing about due process, the Constitution, science, or even the environment. They worship power.

I should have included “Indians” in the list of things the left doesn’t really care about.

Hasn't most of the 'sacred' land been developed into casinos?

Nope; all land granted to the Tribes is sacred - this includes all land once under their control. As you can see, the Biden/0bama Admin has a lot of work yet undone.
