Yeah, I'm certainly not going to prison over a damned tree. There was a similar incident a few years ago near my former home - elderly man shot his middle-aged neighbor over something trivial... spraying water from a garden hose and hitting the old guy's freshly washed car. The old guy never made it to trial; he was in a nursing home for dementia patients within six months and died about a year later. Senile agitation + firearm is not a good combination.
Your post reminded me of our next door neighbor when we first moved in. That first winter here gave us about 60” of snow. We only owned snow shovels at the time. I learned that the best way to keep up with snow is to shovel it nearly constantly before it gets too heavy or icy. You push it instead of lift. So we shoveled snow a lot that year.
Anyway, we have a pretty long driveway. One of the times it snowed particularly hard overnight. We were pulling out our shovels one morning when our neighbor, who had a small tractor with snow plow attachment, showed up and plowed our driveway for us. It was the nicest thing he could’ve done. We had only spoken a time or two before that, but that kind act sure got us off to great footing with them.
Since then, we have done many favors for each other. It’s such a nice thing to have good neighbors.
I am pretty sure confinement with millennials and GenZ will NOT improve his opinion of them.
Sounds like an adverse possession dispute. If someone’s fence is on your property for 20 or so years they can legally claim that strip of land. When I first moved into my house in NY the next door neighbor made it point to tell me his property extended 2 ft beyond his fence. I was like, OK, whatever.
God please bless that little boy. Such a damn shame there are so many senseless tragedies in this fallen world.
One of the ironies of life is that I am a very “selfish” person in that I put my interests first—always.
However my view of “selfish” is that it is a long term proposition.
What that means in the real world is that I do people lots of favors and treat them very well.
I do that not because I am a nice guy—or a good person—but because I know the many benefits it will bring and continues to bring me.
I have no virtue—but we will let that be our little secret...
;-)
Poor mom....he got killed doing her a favor!
THAT rule is different from state to state.
“THAT rule is different from state to state.”
True. The length of time and specifics vary but as far as I know there are similar laws in each state and they can create hard feelings between neighbors.
Look at his eyes.
This is the kind of gun owner that spoils it for responsible people.
Idiots with hair trigger tempers are the bad guys.
The law in florida is that if the tree limb hangs over your property, you can trim it. I don’t know if that’s what was going on here. But even if the guy was violating his neighbors rights, the offended party can’t just shoot him.
Hey, it’s old man Marley from Home Alone.
That combination of circumstances is fraught with a potential for bad feelings and a bad outcome.
Lol Even in my scrappy days I wouldy mess with this guy if he was only holding a donut.
