Will [TX] AG Ken Paxton Challenge John Cornyn for US Senate Seat?
Texas Scorecard ^ | September 21, 2023 | Sydnie Henry

Following the acquittal of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on impeachment charges, Paxton joined Tucker Carlson for an interview to discuss the state of Texas politics.

Carlson drew attention to the ongoing crisis at Texas’ southern border and asked Paxton how he felt U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R–TX) has handled it.

“I have no idea why he doesn’t seem to address this on a regular basis,” answered Paxton. “Thank God Ted Cruz has, but John Cornyn has been basically vacant on this issue.”

When Carlson asked why, Paxton said, “He’s been in Washington too long… And I can’t think of a single thing he’s accomplished for our state or even for the country, let alone the fact that we have a massive invasion into our state, and he doesn’t speak out against it. He doesn’t do anything. I have never seen a proposed legislation that significantly affects it, or at least push hard for it. I haven’t seen him in that fight.”

After Carlson asked how “a guy like that can be your senator,” Paxton said he believes it’s because Cornyn has “never really had competition.”

Carlson then questioned whether Paxton would consider running against Cornyn when his term ends in 2026.

“Everything’s on the table for me,” said Paxton. “Now that I’ve been through this, and I’ve seen how guys like John Cornyn have represented the State of Texas and not represented us, I think it’s time. Somebody needs to step up and run against this guy that will do the job and do it the right way and represent us and worry about what’s going on at the border.”

“From an outsider’s perspective,” Carlson said, Cornyn “seems like a puppet of the Bush family.”

“He is absolutely,” said Paxton.

Paxton recently highlighted the influence of the Bush family machine on his impeachment in an interview with Texas Scorecard.

Paxton explained to Carlson that Cornyn was appointed to the Texas Supreme Court by then Gov. George W. Bush. He said Cornyn pushed through Texas’ ‘Robin Hood’ plan, which allows the state to take property taxes from property-rich districts and award it to property-poor districts through “judicial activism.”

“John Cornyn created a socialistic network,” said Paxton. “And really, I think he hurt our schools and hurt our ability to educate our kids. And he got away with it. No one ever talks about it. But he did that for the Bush’s.”

And now whenever they asked him to speak—criticize me when I’m running against George P. Bush, or criticize me when I had this happen—he does what they ask him to do. He is a puppet of the Bush and Karl Rove team.

Cornyn came under fire from Texas Republicans last year when he joined Democrat lawmakers in crafting legislation to expand gun control regulations. Polling of delegates to the Republican Party of Texas convention found that sixty-seven percent of delegates had an unfavorable opinion of Cornyn, while 16 percent supported him.

In the past few years, Cornyn has also demonstrated his willingness to compromise on illegal immigration.

We need someone aggressive like Ken Paxton to run against John Cornyn in 2026. With Paxton's name recognition and reputation for fighting Biden's regime with lawsuits, he should have a good chance of ousting Cornyn. Seventy-seven percent of his lawsuits were successful,

If Cornyn is not defeated in the 2026 election, with his seniority, he could well end up becoming the Senate majority/minority leader replacing McConnell. This would be disaster.

Tea Party groups in Texas worked hard to defeat Cornyn in the 2014 primary by supporting a good challenger, Steve Stockman. We got Cornyn's vote down to 59% in the primary, which is low for an long-term incumbent. Cornyn is strongly supported by the lobbyists and special interests making it hard to get rid of him.

I met Cornyn at the Texas Republican Convention in 2002 when he won his first primary. I didn't like him then and have not liked him since that time.

Our Senator Ted Cruz does a good job being visible, available and active in promoting Republican priorities and fighting the left. Cornyn has been AWOL since the beginning.

Cornyn is a Paul Ryan/Mitch McConnell sock puppet. Texas needs rid of him.

Joe DiGenova has an axe to grind, both he and his wife were caught up in the ongoing hoax. Joe would be the bulldog we all want.

According to Paxton, if a law allowing the AG to prosecute voter fraud does not get reinstated in Texas it will soon go blue.

The Texas crooked GOP under that drunk GOP RAT phony Dade Phelan, isn’t going to let it get changed back either.

One of the few powers that the Texas Governor actually has is to call special sessions of the legislature and specify what the topic of it is. He can force Drunk Dade to do what he was elected to do. Pressure will mount on him to do it because the rest of the legislators want to get back to their lives instead of repeated special sessions.

Paxton is a flawed man in his personal life. I ask all, whom is not flawed? I am! Paxton has been a loyal soldier for Constitutional law and State rights as defined under our Federal Constitution and our Constitution of Texas. As such I have always supported him.

When the majority Republican House voted for impeachment my initial assumption was that Paxton was guilty. I watched Paxton’s lawyer destroy the charges against Paxton with great skill, satire, legal logic and humor. His lawyer was brilliant. I will vote for Paxton in the future. His own personable foibles that had nothing to do with politics have been paid in full at home and I must assume at a high price from his wife.

I wish them well.

Is Phelan toast? Perhaps it might be best to turn his seat over to a democrat if he can’t be primaries.

The State party is fractured due to Drunk Dade’s antics. County Republican Parties are calling for his resignation and that is the only thing that -might- heal the rift.

Paxton is 60 nearly. The U.S. Senate is surely his calling and ticket.

He’d be wasted as just a governor

I say YES to U.S. Senate!

He’d be a fighter...
