Ironically, the real 1984 was a time of great hope, at least for me. President Reagan was reelected by landslide and I was beginning a beautiful family and a wonderful career.
I thought of George Bush Sr as a poor choice for VP - a simple-minded Boy Scout, accepted by a reluctant Reagan in 1980 in order to mend Republican fences. I had no idea at the time Bush was far more than that - a deep state plant.
