I think it is hyped in one way: to a lot of people a 95yo would need a lot of care! And he apparently is a vet...

However, I have to admit that I find it distasteful (at best) that the government can come in with Big Bucks and make businesses “offas dey can’t refuse.”

In our society, we have a system that pretty much works: here, we have businesses which provide elderly people with services that they can afford.

But then the government comes in with its heavy hand and starts taking those places over. You see it on cop shows every day: oh, you do not desire to accede to our very reasonable request? I have 10 different kinds on inspectors on speed dial here....

And the costs of living goes up faster for elderly people.

I think most Americans are willing to sacrifice for veterans. And I think most would be willing to sacrifice a small amount for true refugees.

But I do not understand why we are sacrificing our veterans for illegal immigrants under whatever appellation or cover story.

I don’t think it is clear in the article, but I did not read it as the govt forcing Island Shores to do things. I read it as the Island Shores ownership chose to sell the facility.

Either the govt bought it, or the facility owners were offered $XXXXXX to change the facility over to illegal housing. I don’t think anyone was forced to do anything, other than evaluate the money differential.

Medicaid generally won’t fund Assisted Living either, so the money differential is some gov’t offer vs individual resources.

Yes, taxpayers are getting stuck with the bill for illegals, but the throwing around of veteran status for this old guy really should not have been in play. It’s not a VA facility and not relevant.
