This is believed to be the moment Russian forces shot down their own £80million fighter jet in an act of friendly fire in Ukraine.
The supersonic SU-35, which is one of the Kremlin's most advanced aircraft, burst into flames over the city of Tokmak in the Zaporizhzhia region.
There has been no official confirmation of the night incident, although comments made by one Russian blogger appeared to acknowledge the loss.

'Russian soldiers used an S-300 missile to shoot down their own plane near Tokmak.
'Work, brothers! Do not stop!'
Russia has lost approximately 90 planes since the start of the war against Ukraine, said an assessment by the British MoD ahead of the latest incident. Pro-war channels in the country acknowledged that a warplane was destroyed by a Russian S-300 air defence system, with the pilot believed to have been killed in the process.
Video which purports to show the incident was released today, showing an orange glow and flash in the sky which could be the moment the plane explodes on impact with the missile.
The incident - if confirmed - represents a new setback for Vladimir Putin whose forces have been hit by a succession of strikes by Ukraine, including the loss of the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet one week ago.

(CNN) -- A Navy pilot killed during the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq was shot down by U.S. Army soldiers who mistakenly believed an enemy missile was heading their way, according to a military investigation.
The Army battery violated proper firing procedures when it launch two missiles as two U.S. Navy F/A-18 fighter jets returning from a mission in central Iraq on April 2, 2003 approached their position, according to the report.
Lt. Nathan White, was killed when both missiles hit his jet. The other pilot returned safely to the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, according to the report.
The missile system also failed to properly identify the two aircraft, according to an executive summary of the report released Friday evening.
No disciplinary action will be taken against the soldiers involved in the incident, Army officials said. The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Central Command, which oversees operations in Iraq and the Middle East.
Navy officials said that the pilots were not at fault, and radio systems identifying them as friendly forces were operating as they approached the missile batteries.

If that continues then pretty soon no more Russian Air Force. The US has twice as many planes as Russia and China combined.

Even if true, Pro-Russian tools almost never present the full story, which in this case would be “What’d the other guy look like?”
Yesterday the pro-Pooties were exalting $100 oil prices. Never mind that high oil prices are at least partially a product of Bidenomics & “green” policies, and are incredibly harmful to US citizens. The Russians’ success in finding ships to export Russian oil was also celebrated - never mind that part of the reason is that Russia is exporting at present almost no refined products, which freed up ships. In fact, most categories of Russian refined oil products are presently banned for export by the Kremlin, because the country is so messed up that it can barely provide enough diesel for its own crops harvest.
Then there are natural gas exports. Russian tools exalt the tiny amount of LPG exported, and of course leave out the crash of overall gas export revenues, and the furious effort to build new / alternate supply pipelines in and to Europe.
During the Cold War, we worried more about friendly fire than the Russians.
A pox on all sides.
