If the USA went 100% nuclear ( or hydro ) then I will be all in for EVs.

We could harness large animals and train them to pull our artillery around. Has anyone ever thought of that?

Except the enemy is not going to waste tonnage on his vehicles with crap like that, so our vehicles would then be outclassed.

Today, yes, it's true. But as they say, Necessity is the mother of invention. If there are going to be advances that eventually make EVs viable for the masses, it most likely will come from the military.

Battlefields will have charging stations and the enemies of our country will never figure out taking out charging stations would incapacitate tanks.

And 'our people' (our top brass) knows tanks being 'down' for 10 hours for a 'charge' won't affect the number of tanks needed in a battle.

One more advantage of promoting people based on color, kink and/or kin...

What is Trump thinking? /s

I’m sure if the government wants to pay for one, he’ll build one.

Agree Jennifer Granholm abuses the use of stupidity it’s amazing how little she knows about everything.

However it’s par for the Biden administration it’s a team of stupidity and proud of it.

“The bidenite/obamunists and the climate jockeys don’t know what the heck they’re doing!!!!”

Oh they know what they are doing. They are “FUNDAMENTALLY TRANSFORMING AMERICA.” Starting in Arkansas with the air planes going to Columbia for drugs, headed by the good ole boy Clinton, which has now openly moving moving illegals and drugs. Obama was born to parents who were Muslim. Connecting those two movements and people and start doing some political history. Trump saw it coming or he would never have become a politician. I saw it coming because all I do is read, but not many noticed what was happening. Our little protests were ignored. Bush was rather ignorant of where he was most of the time.

The might well be true.

“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having both gas-powered and electric vehicles, if not for flexibility.”

So you want to go to the added expense of designing and producing two different types of every vehicle the military has? For “flexibility “? Just the design, tooling and initial production of the electric vehicles would run into the billion$.
Then think about the cost of shipping two types of vehicles half way across the world. An expensive situation that.
Then there’s the problem of dual fuels, and no, the sun isn’t shining over there. Where ever over there is. So you have to send generators and fuel for the generators AND fuel for the ice vehicles.

Better a uniformity of equipment so the supply of fuel, parts and replacements are easy as possible. Fewer of our people will end up dead that way.
After all, there is a perfectly valid reason most soldiers carry the same rifle as the guy beside them. There are exceptions for snipers and other specialists. Even the squad automatic weapon uses the same ammo as the M-16.

No, I was thinking more of a hybrid that could be both, if you are on offense, you rely on your supply lines, if those get cut, you don’t want your tanks to be sitting ducks if the fuel runs out. It would be good to at least have the ability to switch at least so you can get the tanks out of harms way to fight another day.

Is it feasible now? No, but I would think it would be worth it to pursue, and we know that a lot of technological improvements do come from the military.

Republican Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa, later claiming that the push for green energy would enhance America’s energy security.

How long would it take an adversary to figure out that an EMP would stop our vehicles dead in their tracks?

Our modern tanks and other military vehicles are already more complex than ever before. What if China somehow took out our ability to use GPS? How many current soldiers would be confident using nothing but a map? Could our sailors keep from running aground without GPS? They can barely keep from colliding with freighters now.

As far as an electric tank, an M1 Abrams is 26 feet long (hull), 12 feet wide, 8 feet wide, carries a crew of 4 and weighs between 60 and 73 short tons. Using all the available space for fuel gives it a range of 265 miles. You would probably have to make the tank half again as long, and heavier, to add the electric outfit to it. At that point you’ve reached the point of diminishing returns IMVHO.

Sure. Plenty of charging stations for transatlantic flights.
On the battlefield, tanks are exploding anyway.

“dung-powered tanks might be worth a hard look”

Keep some chickens in the back seat. They’ll keep the engine running. And if not, they’ll make good eating.

Elon musk is going to weaponize his Boring tunnel maker. We will just go under the enemy and pop out behind their defenses!
