Chinese jellyfish found in California reservoir
UPI ^ | 10 04 2023 | Ben Hooper

A visitor to a California reservoir took a closer look at what he thought was pollen floating in the water and discovered it was actually a school of jellyfish native to China.

Casey Neet captured video when he spotted the jellyfish in waters near the Stumpy Meadows Reservoir in Northern California's Eldorado National Forest.

Experts identified the tiny creatures as peach blossom jellyfish, a species native to China's Yangtze River valley.

The jellyfish, which have the ability to reproduce asexually, have been spotted in other bodies of water around the world, but their impact on local ecosystems has not yet been determined.

The penny-sized jellyfish don't pose a danger to humans, as they are too small to sting larger animals.

They’re probably infected with some flesh eating bacteria.

Can they be used to make a delicious soup? And should I be worried about that?

Just another example of the unexpected consequences you get from an unprotected border.

Ever since the introduction of the invasive species Snakehead fish into a Maryland pond, I’ve believed that the Chinese were purposely bringing various invasive species to America and releasing them into the wild.

Stink bugs, spotted lantern fly, woolly adelgid, all from Asia and all invasive species that are going after our crops. You bet this isn’t just coincidence.

I have a surefire homemade solution that kills stink bugs almost instantly. They writhe and squirm and flop over on their backs and die. Get a spray bottle, fill it with water, and add Dawn dishwashing soap to make it nice and sudsy. Spray it on a stink bug for half a minute. They can’t tolerate it and it’s a joy to watch the disgusting invaders die a miserable death.
