I doubt whoever comes in next will be able to do much better. Conservatism has an effectiveness problem that transcends the political sphere. No matter how much political power accrued, nothing gets done because there isn't a solid foundation in business, culture, academia or the bureaucracy.
There are just too many spheres that need to be controlled and not enough competent and motivated people to take them over.
