Thousands of Canadian auto workers are joining the United Auto Workers (UAW) strike across the United States as American auto workers warn that they face “poverty wages” as a result of President Joe Biden’s rules to mandate electric vehicles (EVs).
On Tuesday, about 4,300 Canadians at three Ontario-based General Motors (GM) plants joined the UAW strike, which is also against Ford and Stellantis. GM now faces a production issue, as the plants produce a number of vehicles, including Chevrolet Silverado trucks, one of the automaker’s most profitable. Officials with Unifor, the Canadian labor union equivalent to the UAW, accused GM executives of “stubbornly refusing” to match a contract the union has with Ford, which includes up to 25 percent wage hikes.

They’ll get “poverty wages” on the unemployment lines if they get what they want.
And, who WILL they vote for. Union Joe no doubt. The IBEW is already appearing in ads for branDUHn and his bringing back well paying jobs. Uh, union pukes.....🖕
🇮🇱👍
More important is who will they vote for.
I hope they can tell that Trump is against the electric vehicle mandate and the proponent of gas engines and vote for him, regardless of who their ‘leadership’ tells them to vote for.
Interesting. Their “Poverty Wages” is currently about $64,000/yr, not including fringes. They are seeking about $94,000/yr with fewer hours, not including fringes. I find it hard to feel too badly for them. Also, if they get what they want, it will just accelerate the substitution of capital for labor in an industry that has already seen more than half their jobs disappear because they insist on wages that are ultimately going to shoot their own foot off.
There are no less than eight foreign manufacturers building cars and trucks in the United States using NON-UNION American labor.
This could be the turning point and end of the line for the UAW and “Big Three” in the USA.
There will be plenty of choices for consumers even if all of the Big Three close their doors.
“I wonder who they voted for...”
Question is how much in donation was given by the ecologists versus how much from the UAW. At this moment, we see who is winning that conflict. And since Biden is pushing for EV’s, not building gas powered cars to punish him isn’t going to accomplish the goal. They need to go back to the basics and put out cars that everyone can afford that actually work and please the people inviting they to stay with gas powered vehicles so the quality and price make the voters determine that EV’s are not affordable, not convenient, and not sustainable with the nation’s power problems while the libs are trying like hell to make them seem a God send. We’ll see who they vote for then. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice....

That can sometimes be a tough call. The leadership of any union today will endorse Democrats, always and without question. And they will spend union money to back those Democrats.
But the rank-and-file often has a different opinion.
Then it becomes a fair question to ask: If the union leaders are so out of touch, why aren’t they ousted? Well, I was an involuntary union member for 30 years. I could tell you union election stories that would make Stalin blush.
It really doesn’t matter. If Ford, GM and Stellantis disappeared from the American auto market, nobody would really notice after the headlines fade.
“”they insist on wages that are ultimately going to shoot their own foot off.””
No doubt the hierarchy of the auto unions will always be fed. They probably dipped their beaks in the Ukrainian money laundering scheme. The regular auto worker will find out the true minimum wage $0.00/hour.
There used to be over a dozen auto manufacturers in Kalifornia. Now there is one, Tesla. And Tesla got very close to leaving during the Plandemic. The Kalifornia Ruling Class tried to keep Tesla manufacturing closed until Musk stated he would move the plant. All the other auto plants moved to business-friendly states long ago.
“Poverty Wages”
These guys make more than many master degreed professionals sheesh
I was in the UAW. A good chunk of us in my plant were Republican.
I wonder who they voted for...exactly. Interesting that question never seems to get asked.
Also, why are they in a union that actively and financially supports a guy and a party that wants to put them all out of work?
Simple question....Hey Mike, the guy that works for Chevy and is in the UAW, why are you a member of a union that supports the party and guy that wants to take away your job?
The union officials will still have jobs no matter how few union workers there are.
I AM PRETTY SURE that the price of a new car is more than the ACCUMULATED prices I paid for my vehicles since 1957.
You’d have a bunch of idiot Boomers still moaning about the loss of their pwecious brands and how they were making the bestest evar carz and how their 74 454SS Chevelle was the fastest car anyone ever saw.
Meanwhile, back in reality…
This - we have FReepers here say sing that the rank and file in the Union don’t support Biden or the Democrats… yet they keep electing leaders that do. And sending money to them. And not really doing anything against them.
So what poorly assembled cars do we get to blame on them? :P
“These guys make more than many master degreed professionals sheesh”
Yep, makes me think “steaming pantload” whenever I hear their “poor me, unfair treatment” drivel.
Vote crap, get crap. Who’s surprised.
