In recent weeks, we have seen a troubling trend develop. Five million Americans have been removed from Medicaid rolls, and many millions more are on the verge of losing coverage as a result of the Medicaid enrollment cuts. This represents the single greatest threat to our progress toward ending the HIV epidemic in years.
During the pandemic, Medicaid enrollment grew by an estimated 20 million people, contributing to the uninsured rate dropping to the lowest level on record in early 2022. But, after a three-year period during which states provided continuous enrollment in exchange for enhanced federal funding, some states resumed disenrolling people from Medicaid on April 1. A recent KFF survey found that 17 million people could lose Medicaid coverage as a result of this process, referred to as the Medicaid “unwinding.”

I have for a long time compared this to the government subsidizing people who want to play Russian roulette by giving them revolvers that have a few more than six cylinders. The chance of them surviving a brain explosion goes down quite a bit, so why not subsidize it by this rationale?

I don’t know of any men 65+ who get medicaid-which is “free” as in paid for by taxpayers of all ages-those over 65 get medicare-which is not free. At least older people appear to have more good sense and restraint when it comes to the meaning of having safe sex...

If everyone who receives medicaid had to pay for it-even on a sliding scale based on income-they would probably learn some personal responsibility for their sex life and issues like obesity, drug use, etc-no matter what FJB says, govt is NOT your mommy...
It’s Oregon. They get Oregon health plan. It pays for everything, any age. I have to fight for any kind of medical care! Welfare medical even delivered prescriptions to them 20 miles!
That is just insane-but it confirms why my best friend and employer left Oregon to move here and open his business in this rural area-now his sister has become a snowbird-she will get here in early Nov, spend the Winter with him out here and not go back to Oregon till April-she plans to do that routine for the rest of her life-she said she can’t afford Winter in Oregon now-heating even her little cabin is too costly, never mind the cost of gas for her truck...
I don’t take any drugs, but I’ll bet that if someone out here who does wants a med delivered, they better order it from Walmart, and get enough other stuff to get free delivery...
