The whole rationale for Collectivization in the Soviet Union was that independent farmers could not be controlled by the State. So they demonized them as “Kulaks”.
A kulak is a peasant who farmed his own land, owned a few cows & horses, and produced his own food / grain .. for sale and/or personal consumption.. Vladimir Lenin and Stalin hated the middle class who took care of their families. .. six million were starved to death, sent to death camps in Siberia... ~ Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn.
