Meat Giant Tyson Foods Buys Stake in Insect Protein Company
Daily Fetched ^ | 10/18/23 | Jason Walsh

Posted on 10/19/2023 5:24:22 AM PDT by CFW

Tyson Foods announced it had invested in insect-protein supplier Protix and plans to build a partnership US production facility.

“The American meatpacker said Tuesday that it agreed to buy a stake in Dongen, Netherlands-based Protix BV to help fund its expansion. The companies will also form a joint venture to build and operate a US facility that will produce bug-based meal and oil, which are typically used in fish feed and dog food. Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed,” Bloomberg reported.

The meat giant did not disclose the size of its minority stake it has taken in Protix.

Protix is a Netherlands-based company that produces ingredients based on insects.

Tyson Foods said:

“The strategic investment will support the growth of the emerging insect-ingredient industry and expand the use of insect-ingredient solutions to create more efficient sustainable proteins and lipids for use in the global food system.”

I’ll have a little cricket mixed in with my chicken - just for flavor.

insect-ingredient solutions

They pretend that there is a problem that needs a solution. But there isn't. Not in America. We have plenty of food, and we don't need to eat bugs.

If were a Tyson's customer I'd be scratching them off my list. You never really know what ingredients are in that "meat".

This appears to have lizards.

If the Left retains control of the federal government after the 2024 elections, the movement to shove bugs down our collective throats will grow legs and take flight (at some point, to become government mandates).

Going out on a limb...as long as we are burning corn as ethanol fuel, the cost of chicken feed will remain painfully inflated.

The Tyson brand is surely at risk when it is associated with eating insects.

I’ve been reading ingredients for years. It’s a bit of a science, akin to reading a foreign language.

I assure all who are reading this that, like wood fibers added to food, they will invent a new term to describe insect protein to mask its addition once it is granted GRAS status (assuredly forthcoming) and that nearly all who might buy such products including said ingredient will be oblivious to its inclusion unless they 1. Read the ingredients, 2. Understand the nature of said ingredient.

Or, if you truly care about your health, simply abandon the industrial foods complex and invest in your own health rather than enriching corporations at your physical expense.

Tyson is one brand I won’t have to quit. Did that many years ago. Chinese owned, problems several times with contaminated food.
I use John Soule as much as possible.

I quit buying Tyson during the Clinton administration. Donald Tyson and Clinton were up to their necks in Arkansas corruption.
