Californian from Los Angeles who had been shot and survived.

Shot in Los Angeles, or shot in Gaza?

Good question.
Every once in a while there have been local news stories “Mr. and Mrs. ——— visited their son in the hospital tonight. After fighting in two tours in Afghanistan he came home to be shot twice while waiting to check out at a local convenience store. Suspects got away.”

Worst one I ever heard was about an elderly Holocaust survivor in probably 1977 or 1978 I think. Oakland County, Michigan. He was about to get gas for his car when the tanker truck driver started filling the gas station’s underground tanks when a spark set off the gas into a fireball. The man was burned to death. Incredible irony.
