I think there is a good chance. Biden, the EU and the UN will put their foot on Israel’s neck. There will be no ground invasion. So the message is clear. Rape, murder and burn but make sure you leave some alive to use as hostages so you will can use them to cut a deal for no consequence for what you have done.
There can be a cease fire if every Hamas member decides to surrender so the IDF can execute them by the firing squad. Then everyone else can be sparred in Gaza.

The horror of Oct 07 was specifically designed to cause a massive Israeli assault on Gaza... to get Israel to throw common sense out the window and in Her rage lash out in exactly the wrong way...
If Israel instead restrains itself and does not raze Gaza to the ground then those who engineered this outrage will be both dispirited and shocked.
There is zero need to level Gaza, all that is required is to annex a small strip at the southern end and take total control of all transit in and out of Gaza. this will destroy Hamas.
The revenge that Israel seeks for Oct 07 would be best levied against those who engineered and financed the outrage.... and if any justice is to be had it will involve a reckoning with those worthies.
At this point all that is required is a Casus Belli of sufficient magnitude to set the game afoot....

I wonder, however, if their attack truly was an attempt at genocide rather than an attempt to intimidate, demoralize, and terrify the Israeli population, to inflict as much emotional and psychological harm as possible to those they left alive.
It would certainly seem to fit with the way terrorists work.
