The notion that shooting yourself isn’t hard to do is misguided. Two shots in this situation isn’t the red flag most people think it is, as gruesome as that sounds.
I haven’t done it, so I will defer to someone who has.
If you are a new patient, or haven’t been seen in a long time, yes, I believe some patients (not all) are still being ‘casually’ asked about whether anyone in the household has guns, what kind and how many? How often you drink alcohol per week?, any recreational drugs, any episodes of domestic violence, any thoughts of suicide? Worried about paying rent?
Lots of loaded, some would say nosy questions. One has to be careful saying ‘Yes’ to any of those questions, because the Government, you know, is standing by, just waiting to ‘help you’. Speak up if you do need help, otherwise, just say ‘NO’.
