The question to be answered by the chief is, was officer Hirsh supposed to just let the 2 little girls be injured or killed?
Could the chief have done the job without damage to the patrol car?

was officer Hirsh supposed to just let the 2 little girls be injured or killed? Well, DUH! That's not The Department's car nor kids!
Better to let it roll through a red light with a school bus coming one way and a gasoline tanker the other.

The details of the article tell a different story. It was another officer, not Hirsch, who used his police vehicle to stop the driverless car. Hirsch damaged his police vehicle when he arrived on the scene after the driverless car had already stopped.
It was also Hirsch’s THIRD preventable crash in a police vehicle this year.
Maybe he’s not cut out to be a police officer. Or maybe he should be assigned to a bicycle patrol.
