My point is that India has some states that make it tough for Christians by implementing "proselytizing" charges that detain the Christians then release them (think process-is-the-punishment).

For 50 or so years India's lawmakers have pushed for a national ban on "proselytizing" but never got anywhere. When Modi rose to power he promised to ban it. Officially he didn't, but unofficially his party's RSS does the dirty work against Christians.

Explained | Charges against 8 Indian navy veterans who worked for Dahra Global in Qatar

[excerpt]

What are the charges on Indian veterans?

The charges against the eight individuals have not been officially disclosed by either New Delhi or Doha. But initial reports suggest that the authorities apprehended the officials under suspicion of engaging in espionage for the Jewish state, specifically regarding Qatar's military submarine program.

According to media reports, Dahra Global Technologies, was owned by a Qatari national who was also arrested but later released on bail. There were speculations in the media that Qatar allegedly intercepted electronic communication, which indicated that the detained men were involved in espionage activities on behalf of Israel. Specifically, they were accused of spying on the Qatari navy's confidential project involving Italian midget submarines designed to evade radar detection.

They will probably just make the Indian ambassador grovel and then expel them.

On the other hand, India could and should dispatch a handful of warships with orders to level a couple of palaces if Qatar carries out the sentence. The key here is that Qatar is defenseless without the protection of the US.

India’s option is a joint military operation with Israel to penetrate Qatar, kill the entire Hamas leadership, and take the Emir, Tamim bin Hamad, hostage, and demand the release of ALL Indian Navy men and ALL Israeli hostages, or he DIES.

You are right to point that out. I never intended to neglect that. Thought about adding an addendum.

Not limited to Muslims but anti-Christian violence compiled by Human Rights Watch:
“The acts of violence include arson of churches, conversion of Christians by force, physical violence, sexual assaults, murders, rapes, and the destruction of Christian schools, colleges, and cemeteries....Hundreds of incidents of violence against Christians are reported by various organizations every year.”

As of the 1990s and in ensuing years, Christians in India were denounced in anti-Christian propaganda and they were targeted for violence by Hindu nationalist groups which wanted to prevent tribal voters and lower-caste voters from converting to Christianity. In March 1998, the BJP started its rule of India and anti-Christian violence dramatically increased.
From Human Rights Watch and from Wikipedia.

The defendants must know (or already divulged) something ugly the Qataris want to remain hidden, beyond that they bought Italian submarines. Such as Qatari cooperation with Hamas to use these subs to transport missiles into Gaza was revealed to Israel, blowing the whole scheme?

coincidently, India voted abstain on the UN ceasefire resolution. Qatar is owned by Iranian money and Hamas at this point

This article doesn’t make sense to me. Each line talks about a different subject from the previous line. It should be taken out and shot.

I wonder how India would handle it if Qatar said the charges are for “proselytizing”

There is no concept of proselytising in Hinduism. There is no concept of proselytising in any Indic religion, only in Islam and Christianity.

It needs to be written a little tighter, that's for sure. :^)

The mystery is, *what* is there to spy on in Qatar? Particularly if you're India, or second career semi-retired citizens of India. The gulf states tend to recruit early retirees with skills because, uh, the locals have few or none. And they pay well, unless you get into the hands of some unscrupulous prick who takes your papers and you're basically enslaved.

Sidebar -- A former coworker wanted some special kick-dog breed and had to put money down, and wait a couple of years, and got the dog. Then she got a great offer (probably mail-order bride stuff; she was blonde but, as Rickles or Rodney would say, "oooh!") from Abu Dhabi. She had to sell the dog, apparently dogs and booze are forbidden there. And that was before the Khalifa was completed, so, it wasn't just about dogs lifting a leg on a national treasure. ;^)
