Agreed. I like you, did 20-years worth of Marine Corps Balls, and we always had one. No matter what.
And this is November. Balls are planned a year in advance. Whatever arrangements had been made, that’s a lot of money that got flushed. But money aside, this is highly irregular.

In 1992, I planned and carried out a Marine Corps Birthday celebration in the desert east of Cairo for my 64 Marines supporting Operation Bright Star. The senior US Commander was against us going to Cairo, but the senior Egyptian commander (also a 3-star) was all for it. I had a big cake made and we had a cake-cutting ceremony with the Egyptian some army officers and some US army officers attending, then I bused my Marines to Cairo to shop at the Khan Khalili, then the Egyptian museum with a lovely lady guide, then we rented 34 horses to ride to the pyramids and back.
We finished with a dinner and a ceremony at an excellent Cairo hotel.
The army resented all of this because everyone else was prohibited to go to Cairo and stayed in the desert for the whole exercise. One of the soldiers decided to tear up our Marine Corps flag, but other than that small annoyance, my Marines had a wonderful time.

That is worrisome, given that the Marines appear to be the best resistance to the woke crap that has completely bastardized our formerly trustable military.

I suspect that the Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force, FBI, and CIA have all canceled their balls, and just have marbles, if that.

Canceling the Marine Corps Ball sounds a bit ominous.
On a lighter note and speaking of military balls, I just watched "Operation Mad Ball" last night. Great movie with a fantastic cast of Jack Lemmon, Ernie Kovacs, Kathryn Grant, Dick York (of later "Bewitched" fame), Arthur O'Connell, and Mickey Rooney. There's even Mary Tyler Moore as an uncredited nurse!
It takes place In post-WWII France and U.S. Army hospital Private Hogan and Captain Lock try to outwit each other on issues such as wooing pretty nurses, accounting for missing medical supplies, organizing unauthorized dances, and influencing their C.O. Private Hogan must raise his ability to scheme and plot to a new level to put on a madcap dance to celebrate the closing of an Army surgical hospital in post WWII France while evading the stickler-for-details Captain Lock--and trying to win the heart of beautiful nurse Lieutenant Betty Bixby.

Gen. Berger cancelled the 247th ball in D.C. because of COVID.
This looks like a Centcom cancel for 11/16/2023.
Too many Marine Corps balls all over the place from early November thru days in December
Acting commandant was suppose to be @ the Louisiana Ball.

Excuse me Major General Sir, but the Commander-in-Chief will not be deploying you to our Southern Border, where you're most needed, and you certainly won't be of any use in the nuclear conflict he's setting us up for, so exactly what is it you need to be ready for?

When I first saw the letter from the Commanding General, I was shocked. Units this large don't do something like this without talking to higher levels of Command... Unfortunately, as you may well suspect, it is a matter of the Command - read compelling views of political appointees and WH staff decision makers - talking to them.

What, the so-called soldier who tore up the Marine Corps flag? Bless his heart is what I think you are supposed to say.
