Is this for real? I’m finding only a couple of references to it and some are from twitter.

Spells war for me. I wasn’t a marine, but being from a former Canadian regiment and knowing and understanding tradition that we even did overseas. This is big. Can mean only one thing.

I keep hearing about warnings of terrorist attacks. The government can’t want that to happen - no matter how much they think we are collateral damage. If it does people will definitely not want to give up their guns.

The Marine Corp ball has been cancelled for the past two years. This year makes it the third.
Trump says he’s a war time President. My take is that the marines have been deployed throughout the US (and elsewhere) since Trump put the country into COG and left DC on AF1 with the football. Hence the cancellation of the ball. For two years they cried covid. This year its because of having to “protect the country”.
What does that do for morale?
The US Central Command is located at McDill AFB in Tampa, FL. So hardly in the theater of operations beaten zone.

Since it is a solemn commemoration of the Marine Corps heritage (past, present, and future), the “cake cutting” ceremony on 10 November is mandatory (even if the cake is C-rat fruit cake (remember that?) with a candle stuck in it).
The MC Ball is not. Outright cancellation is a surprise. A delay until the operational situation calms down would be more appropriate.
I actually liked that fruit cake.....................
