Of course you’re right that woke institutional investors hold the lion’s share. But those investors have investors as well. I take Blackrock’s recent statement that they’re backing away from ESG as BS, but they’re not immune from pressure from their investors. As far as small direct investors in Target, if they feel their concerns aren’t heard, they can sell and drive the price down further. In any event I think we’re going to find in June that pride Month is a lot less fabulous at Target than it’s been in the past

He was being quite pragmatic - if sales and customer participation takes a dive at the location he's responsible for corporate would be after him eventually. That kind of stink is a threat to his job.
