House Judiciary Committee Republicans are pressing ahead with sweeping reforms to the government’s FISA surveillance powers that among other things would would prohibit the FBI from searching through Americans’ phone records without a court-approved warrant.
The effort is on track to be wrapped up by the end of the year when several Patriot Act powers expire. Republicans and Democrats are coming together on this matter in rare bipartisan cooperation, lawmakers told Just the News.
“We've got, I think, strong agreement amongst members of the Intel Committee and members of the Judiciary Committee. And frankly some Democrats as well, that there needs to be stronger penalties if you abuse the system,” Judiciary Committee Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told the "Just the News, No Noise" television show in an interview aired Friday night.
Jordan said he was focused on what is known as the Section 702 system “where they can create this database” of phone communications metadata that currently can be searched by agents without a warrant.

End FISA now—and lets start prosecuting those who used it to spy on innocent American citizens—including any judges who knew or should reasonably have known this was being done.
Laws? As if those silly things mean anything to the left?
They will never, ever give up this power.
What Congress may do is to develop some relationship with a Google or equivalent (if there is such a thing) to “outsource” the requisite monitoring that would be required to enforce such a restriction, the leaders of whatever committee makes this decision get a few million in grift each from Google, and Google quadruples its ability to surveil telephone traffic and makes tens of billions surreptitiously selling the information to advertisers operating under immunity granted by the law itself. Meanwhile, a new agency is created with 2-3000 people all earning government salaries.
The moment anyone enters The White Hospice with any device capable of transmitting data/voice/whatever, they lose every Constitutional right to any expectation that their communications won't be shared.
And then sunset that Sunshine Law on the first day of TrumpII.
A new law is completely meaningless unless it explicitly states the minimum punishment for violating this law, and exactly who is subject to this punishment.

This is the truth. Any new law will be prosecuted by a corrupt Deep State in trials overseen by a corrupt judiciary.
Look at Kevin Clinesmith. He was “convicted” of FISA crimes, sentenced to nothing and already has his law license back.
Just defund every agency that has the ability to conduct domestice electronic surveillance and every agency that has used the results thereof. This includes the FBI and DOJ and DHS and DOD entities engaged in domestic information warfare.
America's massive surveillance state and dozens of intelligence agencies are already supposed to have warrants from independent courts/judges to conduct operations on Americans.
The surveillance of Trump and the fake dossier showed what a complete and utter fraud this notion is.

They have renewed PATRIOT and FISA every time it has come up. Despite the rampant crime at the FBI, they are still funding them a brand new multibillion dollar HQ. They haven’t cut a penny from the treasonous CIA.
This is meant to placate us and change nothing.
We do well to remember, FISA itself was created after the Church Commission to supposedly reign in the illegal activities of the FBI. Instead it immediately became a rubber stamp secret court for the FBI. And now their illegal activities come with the imprimatur of being officially blessed by a secret DC court and they can claim innocent mistakes.
This new effort will further that tradition.

Anything short of a full repeal of the PATRIOT act and hard criminal penalties for the FBI involved in the 2016 “insurance policy” and the theft of the 2020 election is useless.
Time to take back America from the post 9/11 authoritarian police state takeover.
