A federal appeals court has set a mid-January deadline for the Louisiana state legislature to draw up a new congressional map, which comes in a long-running legal dispute that included a lower court ruling that found the current map likely unfairly diluted the power of black voters.
A three-judge panel in the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals issued its order on Nov. 10, requiring the state legislature to pass a new map by Jan. 15, 2024. The appeals court's order notes that, if the state legislature fails to adopt a new map by the deadline, then the lower court should move ahead to a trial in order to finalize the redrawn boundaries in time for the 2024 election.
If there are objections to the new map, then the matter will be returned to the lower court for consideration of whether it's consistent with Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, as alleged by opponents of the current map, which was adopted by Louisiana's GOP-led legislature.

I’ve never heard of a judge telling a state “You need more conservative districts” or “You need more white districts.”
This is SO bad at so many levels. It is utterly racist to think that black people cannot be fairly represented by a white person.

It seems like the courts absolutely abhor getting involved in election fraud but love getting involved in state redistricting, especially if it favors the Democrats and hurts the Republicans.
So some "judge" deemed that the current map must unfairly dilute the power of white voters.
And according to some bizzare logic, normal American Citizens must "respect and obey" the black robed prog-tards every whim.
Many will say "even the fabled "5th Circuit."
Nope. There is nothing all that special about the 5th Circuit, they just seem to have a bit of common sense.

Federal judges have no standing. Constitution gives the states the power not unelected judges.
Living in bucolic oregon I often thought creating rural districts for equity with the
portland-salem-eugene cartel that runs the state would help stop the craziness.

I’m on board with that... on its face, it’s completely colorblind. The Constitution demands population-based representation, but not residential representation. That said, many (most) states likely have such rules.

Which state was it? I think it was Alabama where the SCOTUS got involved.
The SCOTUS needs to leave this issue alone. It's a political issue in every state. There will be gerrymandering in every state.
