Rosalynn Carter has died at the age of 96, the Carter Center announced this afternoon.
The former First Lady and wife of Jimmy Carter passed away day two days after she entered hospice care and six months after she was diagnosed with dementia.
A veteran women's rights campaigner, she was married to President Carter for 77 years and died at 2.10pm with her family at her side at her home in Plains, Georgia.
She is survived by her children — Jack, Chip, Jeff and Amy — and 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A grandson died in 2015.
'Rosalynn was my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished,' President Carter, 99, said this afternoon.
'She gave me wise guidance and encouragement when I needed it. As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.'
Besides being a loving mother and extraordinary First Lady, my mother was a great humanitarian in her own right,' said her son, Chip Carter.
'Her life of service and compassion was an example for all Americans. She will be sorely missed not only by our family but by the many people who have better mental health care and access to resources for caregiving today.'
First lady Jill Biden broke the news to service members and their families at a Naval Station Norfolk event.

“Ronald Reagan made us comfortable with our prejudices”
-Roslyn Carter.
Carter was incompetent and naive, but he didn’t actively subvert the nation’s best interests like Clinton, Obama, and Biden. RIP Mrs Carter.
From his statement.....to me, this is the most poignant line....
‘As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.’
😢
The accomplishments and guidance part....well, to each his own.
Very sweet tribute, nonetheless.
Yes....RIP Rosalynn Carter.
Except certifying every POS dictator’s stolen election. Hugo Chavez’s bestie. Carter is human garbage.
I think your post is as far as I can go with respect to Carter. But I will go that far.
Didnt care for the man at all while in office, nor afterwards for a long time. Your sentiment is how I now feel about the man.
Best to them both.
This guy, as wrong as he was about most things, is classier than 99% of todays politicians.
Always felt bad for the Carters. They were Dems but old style Southern Evangelical Dems, and the press hated and ridiculed them from start to finish. He was a weak man but with fundamentally decent principles, elected at a bad time that he couldn’t handle. The media..which spent a lot of time and energy ridiculing him and his wife and daughter….hated him he was never really able to get his footing.
In any case, RIP Rosalyn Carter..
Whe jimmah goes, he’ll have to answer for terrorizing that poor rabbit.
RIP Rosalynn Carter.
The Carter’s were not active authors of evil. But they did seem to be friendly neighbors.
I’ll just leave it at this... RIP Rosalynn Carter. Thou shalt not speak ill of the dead.
amen!
The really important things are above politics.
I'm glad she was there for Jimmy.
Was she as big a Jew hater as he is/was?
We’re all sinners...Mrs. Carter has paid for hers.
RIP.
“Whe jimmah goes,”
Day off
“Carter was incompetent and naive, but he didn’t actively subvert the nation’s best interests like Clinton, Obama, and Biden.”
Yes, he did. He worked extensively with the PLO and others. He snuggled up to the muslims worldwide.
