Single white heterosexual male. Divorced. Parents and siblings are all deceased. My children are married live out of state. The holidays are a breeze now. Shopping for gifts is a thing of the past and now I enjoy the holidays as they were intended.

Thanksgiving and Christmas - I volunteer at my church and a local shelter helping prepare and cook meals for low-income families and homeless people. I get to rejoice in the day for what it is and be of service to others. Then I go home, cook myself a nice meal and binge watch holiday flicks.

I am grateful I no longer feel the need to purchase gifts for the sake of purchasing gifts.

The older I get, the more I find myself moving away from the secular part of Thanksgiving/Christmas. I still buy presents for Christmas, but I think more and more about the birth of Christ.
