It absolutely is when the other guys have tandem warhead RPGs and want you dead or worse...
We hear how tanks are over from people that don’t understand modern active protection systems. They’re not. Their advantage is less than before thanks to the proliferation of modern RPGs and you can still kill a tank with an active APS, but you have to work a while lot harder for it now.
Just a minor point - they’re not going to get dragged out of a Merkava IV once they’re inside unless they forgot to lock the hatches. Technically, that thing is probably the most survivable tank in the world at this kind of warfare, which included angry terrorist asshats trying to get into the tank.

There was a FR article of some pali kid (17 years old?) that went up to a IDF gal and stabbed(?) her and killed her a week or two ago. She had been a commander in the initial Oct. 7th battle and had been interviewed for TV. She was in uniform when she was stabbed, so maybe the kid never saw the interview, but...

Why the need for supposed journalist to point out the makeup of the tank crew? It an IDF tank crew.
My e they should do a DNA swab of each crew member and provide genetic break down of each member.

I would argue that having them in tanks-—FREES UP more men fighting on the ground.
Squishing by a tank is also a proven means of resolving labor disputes in the Russian army.

I don’t know anything about opening a tank entry/exit hatch. But, I imagine both sides carry small explosives to blow it off.
But, YES, you are correct, the tank attacking soldiers would have to get their hands on them first.
Said small explosives are not normal issue for infantry and certainly not irregulars or militia like the Palis. Normally it’s the province of combat engineers or special operations troops. Infantry gets antitank munitions that generally aren’t going to get you in to a tank without causing injury or death to those inside.
Also worth noting that most Western tanks have the hinge or pivot mechanism on the inside/under the hatch/armor these days, so as to make blowing a hatch off far more difficult.
