Because the law is an ass. In many places the speed limit is 20mph too low for the road and conditions and everybody knows it.

Then work to have it changed, like any other law you may dislike or disagree with. If you think it's unreasonable, change it. Until then, it's the law, and it's a really, really easy one to follow. I do it every time I drive, without question or issue.

We should be so lucky to have such a possibility. The fact is that we do not. The more stupid the law, the harder it is to ever get it changed. Bad laws accumulate over time. So do bad lawmakers and judges.

That is why the law falls into disrespect and is so often ignored. It is a bad thing to lose the rule of law. We are not doing what is needed to keep what we have.
