National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he did not know when hostage discussions will resume between Israel and Hamas will restart after the fighting reignited over the weekend.
Kirby said, “Well, there are no official negotiations going on right now, Kristen, and that’s because of Hamas. Hamas failed to come up with yet another list of women and children that could be released, and we know they’re holding additional women and children – not combatants, not female IDF soldiers, but innocent civilians, women and children that they have that they couldn’t put on a list and turn that in. So, unfortunately, the negotiations have stopped. That said, what hasn’t stopped is our own involvement, trying to get those back on track and trying to discuss with those partners and all those interlocutors, see if we can’t get it back in place.”

The most effective way to end a war is to make your enemy either surrender or die, and you don’t care which it is.

The US has taken real no action to force Israel to negotiate. No country, for all the words from their diplomats, has taken any action to force Israel to negotiate with Hamas.
What is really going on behind the scenes, is the US, Europe, and the Middle East except Qatar and Iran, is more than happy to let Israel destroy Hamas.
Not that I watch these garbage shows, but I thought their guests were usually lawmakers or executive branch decision-markers. Kirby is a just a p.r. flack.
More importantly, why would they not instead ask the Israeli government? Why would we expect the Biden administration to be a useful source of info on this?

Kirby is not a diplomat. He is the WH (NSC) spokesman for national security matters. Before that, he was a Navy Pubic Affairs Officer. Which means that is and has long been just a flack, a p.r. man.

Why don’t you ask a party who is involved?
“Negotiations” can resume once (1) All HAMAS fighters and supporters are dead or (2) When they unconditionally surrender and release all hostages.
Hopefully never. Yah can’t resume negotiations with the dead.

Israel’s conditions: unconditional surrender.
He is not a State Department diplomat by the strictest definition, that is true. When a person the upper levels of a Presidential administration represents US policy to foreign nations, that person is acting as a diplomat by definition. Their official title does not change the function or role played.
The bottom line is, for nearly two months, no nation has stopped Israel from going flat out to destroy Hamas.
