I’d just go to a trade school and learn to weld, or become an HVAC tech or an electrician. It’d be something a lot more constructive that I could maybe make a buck at.

I like trade school for people who want to be welders, electricians, etc. For people who want to be engineers and back-end data programmers (people who need college), I say go to another college, particularly if this course is required even for a computer science degree.

Ask people already in whatever field you want to go into what kind of training is good to get there. Ask their managers too, since they making the hiring and promotion decisions. They know what training is valuable in that field. If they say it's college then ask them what kind of degrees and what college/universities are good at it. Don't take the college advisors' word that their school is good -- they have to sell their product. Ask the people you want to one day impress enough to hire you what college or voc training brings actual value.

I doubt very seriously they'll tell you to take a bunch of courses specializing in hating all white males who aren't ashamed of their gonads.
